How ‘zero-torque’ putters have changed the 2025 putter

The last 12 months have had a little bit of everything – great work, Ryder Cup Chaos and much more. With 2026 in full swing, our writers look back at memorable moments from 2025 and explain why they matter.
2025 News No. 15: ‘Zero-Torque’ Movement
After JJ Spaun’s 64-fotif bomb closed his victory open and chose him to be the Golf Colf, he threw the Golf Df3 Lab Golf Df3 into the air. Appropriately, the plate seemed to stay the whole time.
Spaun’s Breakthrough victory at Oakmont highlighted a major shift both at the top levels of golf and throughout the game toward the “wero-torque” model.
A “zero-torque” – or low putter – is one designed for the axis of the shaft that points directly to the center of the putter head, compared to the toe that points at an angle or the face points. This design creates a putter face that naturally wants to stay square during the swing to help keep the ball on track.
Positioning the shaft through the CG axis often requires it to be placed behind the face first, unlike traditional spool removal. To combat this, many low throttles have a tilting shaft to position the user’s hands in the correct position.
This design does not remove all the torque from the stroke, but the term “zero-torque” caught on early.
Spaun wasn’t the first player to use or even win with a low-torter putter on the PGA Tour, but his departure early in the season coincided with his best PGA year and underscored the rise of a new class in the game.
Torque Putters first appeared on the PGA Tour when LALL golf, the maker of Spaun’s putter, was spotted in Adam Scott’s bag. Scott became the poster child for the Low-Torque Putter Movement, using a long, “set-up”, similar to the long putter that I used to win the majors.
The putter brand really caught fire towards the end of 2023, when Lucas Glover, whose career had fallen due to putting, made a clear return to the PGA tour back in August. Glover was using a lab mezz.1 Max Sweeper, same as Scott.
Lab Golf DF3 putter
We’ve taken the chisel to the original balanced angle putter to make the DF3 smaller and faster while respecting the design that started it all. The DF3 offers our favorite build options and specifications. These options are ideal for golfers who use standard specs.

But it wasn’t until as late as 2024 that major OEM rivals such as Bettinardi, PXG and Odyssey began to enter the low-torque space. Those things preview the PGA TOUR Green this late and better received in 2025.
But this season, the tone began to rise.
Major OEMS taylormade and scotty cameron, two of the three largest players in the putter market, and odyssey, have launched their range of low torque stations in 2025.
In addition, companies continued to innovate the concept. The Lab was able to create its first Heel-Shaft putter
Spaun made waves on the morning of the season with his sprint to the players before his victory at Oakmont, while Brian Harmick Higgo was defeated by the Lab OZ.1I, a putter designed for Scott himself. Meanwhile, Gary Woodland had his best season since 2020 using the prototype Scotty Cameron Center.
Spaun, Higgo and Government were the only players to win that season with the low model of the Torque Putter, and Higgo was the only merchant to be found: putting, but the trend had a big impact on the sales space.
Lab Golf’s Marketing Strategy is a re-invention of the traditional idea, which was that tour players influence recreational golfers, by first catching up with regular golfers to see if they can tour. For the most part, it seems to be working.

Low Torque Design The Kbs Putter SHAFT has a bore directly next to the CG in the room 1 ° shock behind the face that allows golfers to see the benefits of the new floor, toe. Different moldings of new and advanced moldings only work directly with this unique configuration of hosels, engineers have worked tirelessly to find new ways to find new ways to improve precision from the ball. The new curvature alone utilizes different types of players and ball positions, giving golfers the ability to achieve a consistent and repeatable stroke. The stiffness of the spider consisting of high attenuation stainless steel and low aerospace aluminum provides the ideal basis for a high moi design and allows shaft orientation that stays close to the face. Low and low daily sales papers and Odyssey vp of product, Jacob Davidson, told golf that we may be seeing the creation of a “game improvement” Putter category, as there are other club categories.
“Maybe, just maybe, for the first time, we’re starting to see that bifurcation of style setting coming from everyday golfers, as well as the best players in the world,” Davidson said.
At the moment, low-end low torques are still new to the game, but unlike the start of 2025, when most major oems were still trying to figure out if the putter style was just a fad or a trend with staying power, it seems we have an answer now.
