Carlos Alcaraz has parted ways with coach Juan Carlos Ferrero after seven years and 24 tour-level titles. The number 1 player in the PIF ATP Rankings announced the news on Wednesday on social media.

“It is very difficult for me to write this post,” Alcaraz wrote in Spanish. “After more than seven years together, Juanki and I have decided to end our time together as coach and players. Thank you for making my childhood dreams come true. We started on this road when I was young and during all this time you have been with me on an amazing journey, on and off the field. I have enjoyed every step with you.

“We have reached the peak, and I think that if our sports paths should part, it should be from there, in the place we have always worked for and wish to reach. I have so many memories that it would be wrong to choose only one. You have made me grow as an athlete, but most importantly as a person. The thing I appreciate the most is that I enjoyed this journey. I will never forget the journey together.

“Now is a time of change for both of us, new events, new projects. But I am sure that we will touch them in the right way, give our best, as we always have. We are always moving forward. With all my heart, I wish you all the best in the future. I am happy to say that we gave our best, that we gave each other everything.”

Alcaraz started working with Ferrero seven years ago and won all six of his major titles under the guidance of the Spanish coach. Ferrero also helped Alcaraz, then 19, become the youngest player to achieve the ATP Year-End No.

Alcaraz claimed 24 tour-level titles during his partnership with Ferrero, including eight ATP Masters 1000 crowns. The Spaniard, who will continue to work with Samuel Lopez, also won the 2021 Next Gen ATP Finals awarded the PIF title with Ferrero at his side.

“Today is a difficult day,” Ferrero wrote on social media. “One of those where it’s hard to find the right words. Saying goodbye is never easy, especially when there are many shared experiences behind you. We worked hard, grew together, and shared unforgettable moments. I want to thank the time, trust, learning, and above all, to the people around me throughout this journey.

“I leave with laughter, challenges overcome, conversations, support during difficult times, and the satisfaction of being a part of something truly unique. Today, the most important chapter of my life comes to an end. I close it with nostalgia, but also with pride and joy for what may come next. I know that everything I have lived has prepared me to be better.

“Thank you, Carlos, for trusting me, your effort, and your competitive approach makes me feel special. I wish you all the best, both professionally and personally. I would also like to thank the whole team for making my job easier all these years. With you, I learned that work is not just about tasks or results, but about the people who walk around you. Each of you I will never forget that I will never forget.

“We have been an amazing team despite the difficulties, and I am sure you will continue to achieve great success. I wish I had continued. I am sure good memories and good people always find a way to cross paths again. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
