NHL Rumors: New Jersey Devils – Dougie Hamilton, Ondrej Palat, Quinn Hughes, and Ryan O’Reilly

Dougie Hamilton’s name was there, but Ondrej Palat’s might not have been
The NHL Network: Elliotte Friedman, to the New Jersey Devils with several blocked deals. Friedman heard Dougie Hamilton’s name, but not Ondrej Palat. Don’t believe the Devil’s pack was good enough, with the lack of healthy bodies right now.

Mike Rupp: “What do we do with this situation? Some of the rumors here are Dougie Hamilton, Ondrej Palat.”
Friedman: “Okay, you know, I can say this guys, that maybe a lot of this is my fault. Because in Quinn Hughes’ leadership, I was saying there was, like, one of the reasons I think a lot of Hughes’ stuff came out before he was traded is because I think the Devils were trying to move some pieces.
I think they were legitimately trying to move some guys, and some deals were blocked. And that’s why I think, I’ve found out about it.
NHL Rumors: Will There Be A Steven Stamkos Deal?
Now I will say this, I was trying to tread carefully because I didn’t talk to people in particular, and I like to try to talk to guys before, or representation before something ends, or their team. I have never heard the name of Palat. I have never heard his name. Now that, I’m not saying that anyone else is wrong or anything like that. But what I mean is, I myself, have never heard Palat’s name.
I heard Hamilton’s name. And I think the Devils know that, you know, he’s in a situation where he has a 10-team roster, I believe it is. And I think they know that if they want to make a deal for him, it’s probably going to have to be with one of those teams. I don’t know that he is inclined to go anywhere, that he is not, which was not agreed upon when he sent his list at the beginning of the summer.
And you know, the other thing about that is, those are not the only guys. There are other guys, but they’re probably the big names, that’s why they get the attention.
Now, the other thing I can say about all of these guys is that I don’t think the Devils will be able to get past Minnesota on Quinn Hughes. I just think if you look at the package, and you all can judge, you’re all big hockey guys. Two of you played Mike. He watches more hockey than God. You can decide based on what we suspect is the Devil’s package, would you take the Minnesota package or the Devil’s package? And I think a lot of people said they would have taken Minnesota.
NHL Rumors: Navigating a No-Trade Clause
So I think what happened here was that the Devils realized they weren’t going to get him, and they backed off. They’re taking whatever names they had out there off the trade block, because they’re short-handed now, and they’re getting beat. That if they trade people but don’t get Hughes, they are very short handed.
So what I believe is, we have to wait to see what the Devils do next here. I still think a guy like Ryan O’Reilly is on their radar. And you know when the time comes when they want to go out and get somebody, that’s when I think we could be watching a lot of moves from the team that you won the Stanley Cup with, Michael.
