Man United are looking to replace Patrick Dorgu

I saw an interesting Manchester United transfer story this morning that had me doing some digging because something didn’t quite add up.

We know the Red Devils are keen on Antoine Semenyo, Fabrizio Romano and others now confirming what we have prioritized here about the Bournemouth and Ghanaian midfielder.

However, a new detail that I have seen seems to reveal another priority for Ruben Amorim in a key position in his team.

That position is at left back, or a winger in Amorim’s system, the Sun suggests that Semenyo could be signed as a surprise choice in that position due to major concerns over Patrick Dorgu.

Now, Semenyo is one of the most in-form players in the Premier League this season, but he is not a full-back, so the club intends for him to play in their front three, even if Dorgu is at risk.

As first reported here in the Daily Briefing, a well-connected source, who spoke on the matter of disclosure to protect the relationship, confirmed to me that United are already looking to replace Dorgu.

“It is no secret that (Dorgu) had a difficult time at United,” said my source. “Coming in as a starter…it was too fast for him. They’ll be looking at that situation, for sure.”

Asking specific names has proven difficult, but I can point to players I have heard of before, although I cannot guarantee that they will be priorities, and other clubs may be more advanced in those deals.

One player attracting a lot of attention in Europe at the moment is Eintracht Frankfurt left-back Nathaniel Brown.

As reported earlier this week, my latest information is that Arsenal are probably the club most interested in Brown at the moment.

It is worth mentioning, however, that United have been mentioned by more reliable journalists in recent times, such as Florian Plettenberg of Sky Germany.

I have previously been told that Newcastle’s Tino Livramento is on their radar, but once again, strong interest has appeared to come from another club, this time Manchester City.

In short, we won’t know for sure what will happen here, but for the record, here is my analysis of the situation.

United are likely to keep an eye on the likes of Brown and Livramento, but not as a priority as they wait to see how Dorgu can develop.

Now that that doesn’t look like happening, speculation about the Denmark international’s status is mounting, so we should learn more about who is targeted to replace him.

I would expect a central midfielder like Elliot Anderson or Carlos Baleba to be the best, but again this is just the beginning of something.
