Seravalli: “It’s been kicking a lot of tires. And not to say that interest isn’t real, but they’re just not ready to get to that point. The interest hasn’t been big enough yet. A lot of hey, ‘we saw that Quinn Hughes was traded. Like, are you moving Rasmus Andersson?’
So that the volume of calls is there, but not in terms of integrity to do business right now. We were very interested in you. Remember us, don’t do anything without calling us. And that was the tone and tenor of the calls.
…
Brien Rea: Rasmus Andersson has been, I mean, Tickle Me Elmo, it feels like since last year. The first thing on everyone’s Christmas list is to try and get into their blue line. And if that conversation goes on for a long time, like Seattle, who is willing to go up against other teams to try to get him, and the extension situation.
NHL Rumors: How Inquisitive Are Toronto Maple Leafs Getting?
…
Seravalli: “And the reason why the interest, I think, hasn’t been very sincere this week and trying to get a holiday list out for someone like Anderson, is because look at the East. We’ve just talked about there being something like this combination of teams outside of the top five in the West. The East is, everybody’s over .500 in the East, so the teams are in the East. Just us and run.
And they’re not ready and willing to trade goods this early without knowing the answer to that question, or at least having a better chance of figuring it out. So that part stands out.
I mean, Rasmus Anderson has very limited control when it comes to non-trades. It’s six teams that don’t trade, so they won’t have that much of a say.
But, I mean, I’m counting on all the tax-exempt states having a chance to win. Those are like the places you want. And to no one’s surprise, those are groups that are usually united. So, I think that for many of these groups that may have big ambitions, being able to close the deal is a different matter.
Brien Rea: “Yeah, and the last thought for me on this, the way, Bill Guerin actually went to the sniper growing up in Quinn Hughes calling Vancouver and said, boom, here’s my package, and he just pulled his big clubs out of the bag. and said, ‘Okay, there’s our best and last offer. Take it or leave it.’ And try to get over the top before they say, let’s do this and they bring out Rasmus Andersson.
Seravalli: “Here’s the thing, however, that is very likely to happen between the calendar change to 2026 and the pre-Olympic list being set up.
Anderson going to the Olympics, he’s going to want to make that deal before he goes there and give himself a lot. And now we enter the season of your breath for everyone. Because trading chips that nobody wants to see get hurt, and all these guys that are going to be selected for the Olympic roster 12 days from now.
NHL Rumors: Calgary Flames Will Be Team To Watch In The New Year
They have a lot of hockey. Five weeks of hockey to get through. I can assure you that there will be significant changes in almost every team from the moment it is named, on the 31st of December until it arrives in Milan. There will be players added and removed without a doubt, because some teams have 17 games, Brien, will play in January. That’s crazy.
