Royal St George supports local nurse at launch of bereavement team – Golf News

Royal St George’s Golf Club has again shown its commitment to supporting the local community, helping a Kent-based children’s nurse to launch a new bereavement support group for parents dealing with the loss of a child.
Amber Selvey, a pediatric nurse from Seasalter, presented We are together in sorrowa peer support group based in Whitstable, following funding made possible by the Evie Dove Foundation, including a donation inspired by members of The Royal St George’s Golf Club.
Pediatric Nurse Turns Personal Loss into Purpose
Amber’s motivation for starting the group was personal. She suffered an unimaginable loss, having lost her son and her husband to the rare genetic disease Alagille Syndrome.
Drawing on over 20 years of experience working in pediatric nursing across East Kent, Amber wanted to create a safe and understanding environment for parents living with child loss.
Together in Grief: A Safe Place for Bereaved Parents
The Whitstable-based group meets at Revival Food & Mood every third Wednesday of the month, from 7pm to 8pm, giving parents a place to talk, listen and connect with others who really understand their experiences. The next meeting will be held on the 18th of February.
The group was formed while Amber was studying for a degree in Counselling, Coaching and Mentoring at Canterbury Christ Church University.

Funding is through the Evie Dove Foundation
His training was supported by two £5,000 grants from the Evie Dove Foundation, with his second year’s funding made possible by a donation from The Royal St George’s Golf Club.
“Amber’s story has touched us all,” said Rob Moulsdale, Trustee at Royal St George’s Golf Club. “Her commitment to supporting families is incredible, and we are proud to help her be able to train through the Evie Dove Foundation.
It is an honor to support Amber and the Foundation in making a tangible difference in the lives of sick children and their families.”

Golf Club Donation Helps Bring Training to Life
Amber said the support she received was important in turning her vision into reality.
“Introducing this group is something I feel called to do,” he said. “Nurses rarely receive funding beyond the first degree, so other degrees can be difficult to achieve.
The support of the Evie Dove Foundation has made this group possible, and I am grateful for providing something that can help families in our community.”
The Culture of Giving Beyond the Fairways
The Evie Dove Foundation was established in memory of Evie Dove, who died of incurable brain cancer aged 13 in 2022.
The charity supports sick children and their families by funding specialist training for child health professionals.
To date, the Foundation has raised over £425,000 and supports the training of over 200 professionals across the UK.
Howard Dove, Trustee at The Evie Dove Foundation, praised Amber’s work and the impact of community support.
“Amber’s compassion and expertise have a great impact on children and their families,” she said. “By funding the specialized training of professionals like Amber, we can help keep compassion at the heart of child care.”
How and When to Go Together in Grief
For Royal St George’s, the project reflects the club’s long-standing tradition of giving back beyond the streets, supporting local people, worthy causes, and programs that strengthen the Kent community.
