Chris Gotterup’s star power continues to rise as he just picked up his third PGA Tour victory to start the 2026 season at the Sony Open.
Gotterup is a rarity when it comes to gear, as he is a Bridgestone employee, who only uses irons and golf balls. Gotterup sports 220 MB irons, which are the first clubs Bridgestone has released since 2019.
His other bag is made up mainly of TaylorMade clubs and a Ping G440 LST driver.
There are a few changes for Gotterup since his last win last summer in Scotland, including the absence of the 16-year-old TaylorMade RSi TP 1-iron, which was only thrown on the links for the golf season.

The most notable change is Gotterup’s golf ball, which is the new Bridgestone VS Black Proto. The new ball will be announced as the 2026 edition of the Bridgestone Tour BX on January 20.
Bridgestone is staying mum on details about the new ball, but said the prototyping process went through 20 different designs and more than 240 prototypes. The breakthrough was a completely new material discovery.
In November, the company teased test results on average golfers showing an average ball lift of 2.3 mph and 8.7 yards of added distance with different VS Proto balls. Tiger Woods also said that he has seen the speed of the ball increase and confirmed that he will play a new ball when he returns to the tournament in 2026.
Matt Kuchar used it again last month when he won the PNC Father-Son with his son Cameron. But now Gotterup has started 2026 with an official PGA Tour new ball win.
Another change since the Scottish Open was in full swing for TaylorMade’s MG5 wedges, which were in the prototype stage in July.

Driver: Ping G440 LST 9.0˚
Shaft: Project X HZRDUS Black Smoke RDX 70 TX
PING G440 LST Driver Custom
The G440 family of drivers (MAX, LST, SFT) is designed to deliver more ball speed with a number of improvements, including PING’s deepest CG in a driver to date and a thin, narrow face, while continuing to ensure the game-changing forgiveness expected of a PING driver. The G440 LST (Low Spin) design appeals to players with faster swing speeds, providing lower spin and more control at 9° and 10.5° lofts with a three-position back weight. EXTREMELY FORGIVING Lighter head weight allows for heavier rear weight. FAST FACE Shallow, thin, face increases ball speed for more distance, higher launch. SOUND DESIGN New shape, carbon crown and inner ribs produce a muted feeling of impact. FREE-HOSEL DESIGN Saves weight to lower CG, increasing forgiveness. It allows the face to expand on the heel side for constant ball speed on the face.

UNBELIEVABLE FEEL Unbelievable feel is necessary for a good wedge game. The MG5 is made of soft carbon steel and is designed with geometry to provide a great feel with great feedback. MAXIMUM SPIN MG5 uses new, more aggressive grooves designed to maximize spin. The saw-milled grooves produce tight tolerances that allow engineers to create high walls and sharp radii aimed at maximizing casting in both dry and wet conditions. PERFORMANCE IN ALL CONDITIONS GREEN face with Spin Tread technology channels wicks away moisture to maintain circulation. In the same way that tire tread helps your car stay connected to the road, laser-encrusted channels redirect water at impact and create more friction between the clubface and golf ball to maintain spin in wet conditions. ART IN CONNECTION Handcrafted and then milled to perfection. Each wedge and sole grind is precision ground to eliminate the natural human error that comes with hand polishing. Our grinding delivers unmatched consistency and professionalism that players can always count on. CHARCOAL FINISH MG5 starts with a fine, polished charcoal finish that reduces glare and improves its aesthetic appeal on the bag.
