Manchester United officials will hold a meeting with interim manager Michael Carrick, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The Red Devils are looking to discuss their plans for the January transfer window with Carrick.

Buoyed by their win against Manchester City, United are now looking to make a decision on their transfer business this month.

The Red Devils welcomed Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo to the AFCON this weekend and both of those players played a part in their victory over Pep Guardiola’s side.

With attack and defense both looking sharp again, United could be in the market for a new midfielder.

Romano gives Man United’s key transfer update

Romano confirmed that Carrick will discuss with the club any decision we make in the January transfer window.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said:

“I wanted to say something about Manchester United. Because in the next hours, I would say, at the beginning of this week, there will be an internal meeting at Manchester United, which includes the views of Michael Carrick.

“That’s not Michael Carrick who decides, but Michael Carrick, who started his Manchester United chapter in an impressive way, by winning the Manchester Derby, showing great energy, great football.

“But at the same time, Carrick will be involved in a discussion with Man United to decide on a few conditions, what they want to do in the market between now and the end of the January transfer window.

“If they want to go and try to get a player, maybe in midfield, maybe in other positions, maybe a striker. So they need to check and decide with Michael Carrick, or continue with the current squad and invest in the summer.”

United may be looking for a short-term solution this month as logically making any big signings would make more sense for the head coach.

They have been linked with moves for a number of midfielders but it remains to be seen whether they will follow through on their interest in keeping a close eye on players before they make summer moves.

As well as returning players to the Afcon, the performances of Kobbie Mainoo and Harry Maguire have been a huge boost for the club.

Maguire returned from injury while Mainoo made his first Premier League start of the season, having been on the bench for most of the season under former manager Ruben Amorim.

With Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte both showing inconsistency this season and their futures uncertain at Old Trafford, even if United enter the market this month, signing a midfielder will be their priority.
