Tommy Paul cruises through the Australian Open draw, advancing to the fourth round at Melbourne Park for the third time in four years. But the American leaves his mark on the court, too.
Paul and fiancee Paige Lorenze recently announced the creation of the Kids Outdoors Foundation, which creates opportunities for children who don’t have the money to play sports to do so.
“Our goal is to encourage kids to get outside and play sports,” Paul told ATPTour.com. “If there are more programs with children, we can support them better.”

Paul has been at the top of the ATP Tour for years, reaching No. 8 in the PIF ATP Rankings last year. Lorenze is now a content creator, but he used to be a competitive skier and now enjoys horseback riding. They want to ensure that children have the same opportunities that they have.
“I think it’s very important, especially for people like me and Paige,” said Paul. “Sports put us in the situation we are in right now, we have to give back and I’m happy to start doing this and be successful, especially in South Florida and Eastern North Carolina, where I’m from.
“There’s not a lot of tennis going on there. So anything I can do to push forward and get it back is exciting.”
The Kids Outdoors Foundation will fund existing programs that provide children with access to sports with significant financial barriers, such as tennis, skiing and horseback riding, and create new opportunities. The goal is to support non-profit organizations that are already doing good work for children in the community to help increase their impact.
Paul did not compete after last year’s US Open due to a foot injury. That time off the court helped the American figure out how to give back.
“I would say it’s something I’ve wanted to do for a long time,” said Paul. “The time off I had – the time I was away – gave us the time we needed to continue working.”
Paul will face World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz on Sunday for a place in the quarter-finals. The Spaniards lead their Lexus ATP Head2Head series 5-2.
“It’s always an interesting game. It’s always a big challenge to play Carlos. He can do anything on the court. He’s lightning fast. He’s like the level that everyone is trying to reach right now,” Paul said in a press conference after his third round match in Melbourne. “But you have to go into it with excitement, be ready to face it, be ready to bring your best level, believe in yourself.
“That’s something I bring to the table every time I play with Carlos. I believe I can win every time I go out there. Otherwise, you’ll go out without a goal.”
