Matheus Cunha could face an FA ban after Man United’s explosive celebration against Arsenal

Manchester United’s stunning 3-2 win over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium could come at a heavy price, with match-winner Matheus Cunha facing the prospect of further FA action.
The Brazilian star, who came off the bench to score a decisive goal last season, was the hero of the night for interim manager Michael Carrick.
However, according to the Manchester Evening News, his celebrations could land him in hot water, with suggestions that the FA could review the video of the apparent blast directed directly at the broadcast camera.
What does Matheus Cunha do?
The incident happened shortly after Cunha put United back in front following Mikel Merino’s Gunners equaliser.
Finishing off a fine sequence involving Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo, Cunha curled a fine finish into the bottom corner to send the support into a frenzy.
Cunha then ran towards the corner flag, took the camera on the side of the pitch, and shouted looking straight down through the lens. Although the sound was not very clear, the message contained a clear sound.
The explosion was significant enough to force immediate damage control from broadcasters.
Sky Sports commentator Peter Drury issued an apology on air moments later, saying: “If you heard foul language during the celebrations, we apologize for that.”

What are the FA rules?
Although the field officials did not punish the striker at the time, Cunha is not clear.
According to the report, the FA’s guidelines on “offensive, abusive or insulting language and/or body language” are strict.
The rules clearly state that swearing directly on camera can be interpreted as a “clear and deliberate” act of misconduct that brings the game into disrepute.
Because the incident was broadcast to a global audience, the FA has the power to take disciplinary action.
If the governing body deems the action to be serious enough, the United striker could face a suspension, which would rule him out of key upcoming games.
Cunha has been impressing lately
The goal was a reminder of why Manchester United brought Matheus Cunha to Old Trafford in the first place.
After struggling for consistency, this cameo showed the sharpness and clinical edge that defined his best days at Wolves.
| Time | Games Played | Goals | It helps | Goals per game | It helps with each game |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| First 14 games | 14 | 1 | 0 | 0.07 | 0.00 |
| Last 9 games | 9 | 4 | 2 | 0.44 | 0.22 |
Matheus Cunha’s Premier League stats comparison
It is further proof of the effect Michael Carrick has had on the players.
Since taking over from Ruben Amorim, Michael Carrick has been able to open up a previously disjointed attack.
With back-to-back wins over Manchester City and Arsenal, players like Cunha and Dorgu among others are finally finding their best form, playing with ease and confidence that shows the season is far from over for the Red Devils.
