Shane Wright’s name is there if the Seattle Kraken can find a goal scorer
Sportsnet: Elliotte Friedman said the Seattle Kraken are looking for a goaltender, and they put Shane Wright’s name out there to get one. Even though things didn’t work out the way both sides had hoped, they still rated him as the best player in the first round. The same can be said of Alexis Lafreniere. What about an exchange?

Matt Marchese: “One more thing before we let you go here. Did you hear Shane Wright’s name out there as a potential trade chip to Seattle?”
Friedman: “Yes, that’s correct. Yes. That’s right, that report was right. That’s right. I, I probably didn’t believe it when I first heard it, but because it was so amazing. But that’s not a mistake. He’s there.
You know, we talked on the pod today, like Wright’s (Alexis) Lafreniere deal would make sense? Does that make sense? Seattle has never had a scorer, like a young scorer. And I think they feel, if, Wright is a new center. Institutions are important. I think if they can get a goal scorer.

Like, to be honest, I was wondering, the first thing that came to my mind was, are they going to try to do it with the Rangers for (Artemi) Panarin? But I’m not sure Panarin can do that.
So I came, I wanted to change, as if they were looking for a goalscorer. And you know, Wright had his battles there in Seattle to find his own, to carve out his place. Lafreniere has some battles to carve out for the Rangers. I don’t know how both parties feel about that, but it just pops into my head like that’s possible, that makes sense.
Marchese: “I mean, Shane Wright isn’t the only guy having trouble finding his touch in Seattle. That seems to be an ongoing problem. But he feels like the main guy, you know, a different place might change the trajectory a little bit here. What do you think the real value is for him? Like, he’s obviously still a very young player.”
Friedman: “It could be as high as, you know, one thing. As teams say, like, this is like this, teams say, ‘This is the guy who was the top pick.’ Like, I know there are some Rangers fans who are really down on Lefreniere, and they’re like, ‘The Rangers should get him.’ The scouts will say, ‘Like, this guy is the first pick. We don’t just give it to him. We’d rather keep him and try to fix it than give him away.’
And I think it’s the same thing with Wright? Like, obviously, he’s struggling to find a role there. I looked at you yesterday, you’re 10th in Seattle in ice time. He averaged, played nine minutes one night. Obviously, they’re struggling to find a way, but he’s still been the fourth pick in the last few years.
So the price will be high, very high. And they will say we want a young player like him or something valuable. So that’s it, that’s why that’s like that Wright thing about Lafreniere, whether it’s true or not, whether it’s possible or not. It’s interesting to me, because you have two little boys, who are struggling in their place. Both are top picks.

And this manager was telling me, that guy was a first round pick, like five years ago.
And yet, that’s how people look at you. And Wight is more recent than that, and LaFreniere is more recent than that. And they were, like pick one and pick four. Like these teams, even if those players are struggling, they don’t let go, stop holding on to those guys easily.”
