The Buffalo Sabers should be buyers, but probably not aggressive buyers
The Chris Johnston Show: Could the Buffalo Sabers be looking to become buyers before the trade deadline? They should be buyers, but not aggressive buyers.

Julian McKenzie: “And if the Sabers continue to play well, so what, there has to be a world where the Sabers could be a buyer at the deadline, right?
And if you really want to reward them and give more reason for your fans to be happy, as there is no such thing, by adding another clip to this group. And maybe it’s too early to tell, since it’s late January, but I’d like to see this team, when the time comes in March, try to make some kind of swing to make their team not only better for the future, but for now.
Johnston: “Well, I think it’s coming. I mean, you know, because there’s, there’s actually not a lot of games left before the trade deadline, even though there’s that window of time. And so Buffalo, it’s fair to say, like it’s not even hot, they’re just going to be in the playoffs or just out of the playoffs. If something happens in March. or you lose 10 in a row, but I’m not sure that those things, you know, are in the way here.
And so I think there’s going to be some pressure or expectation, maybe more accurately, how to describe it, you know, add to the court. To give that, that press down, because it’s going to be a real athlete, you know. Especially in the Eastern Conference, where you have a lot of teams grouped together based on where they are, points wise, or points wise percentage wise.
And you know, you’re coming back from the Olympics, and a lot of teams are going to, you know, call 25 games to get to the house. To get to, you know, when the real season starts.
And then, you know, I think Buffalo is going to be a buyer. I don’t know how aggressive they will be. I mean, those are probably some of the details that we’ll get a better idea of as it gets closer.
You know, even the Tuch situation, where I’m like low-key, maybe they’ll have to make a decision about trading him. That, to me, that would not be the same thing as player abandonment. Like you’re doing that trade you’re trying to find something that works for you, right? As it is, it can be just to manage the property.
You know, at this point, there is no kingdom. I see the Sabers as sellers, and if anything, they will be small B buyers, and maybe even something much smaller than that. I mean, you know, I’ve mentioned it before, but I think we have to look at this record of GMs and emphasize that Jarmo Kekalainen, and he’s made some very difficult decisions in his career, he’s never hesitated to take a big swing.
And, you know, I think he understands what’s on the table here for the Sabers as well as anybody. And for him who is starting this job, I don’t think he will personally say it. I think this, you know, this, this, this Doan contract is kind of a different business, but I think it’s a sign of, you know, a lot of direction, of what’s needed, what needs to happen, and just go and get it done.
