Think you have what it takes to make it to the US Open? Now is your chance to choose where to start your journey, as the USGA announced the local and final qualifying sites for the 126th US Open Championship at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, NY.
While the US Open won’t start until June 18-21, local qualifying – where a single round of 18 holes is played – will take place between April 20 and May 18 at 110 venues in 46 US states, as well as Canada and Mexico.
The final qualifiers will run from May 18 to June 8 and include players who qualified for a place in addition to eliminated local competitors. Thirteen venues (10 in the US and one each in England, Japan and Canada) will host the 36-hole finals.
Last year, the USGA accepted a record 10,202 entries for the 2025 US Open at Oakmont, surpassing the previous record of 10,187 entries received for the 2023 US Open at Los Angeles Country Club.
Interested in unlocking it? There is a prerequisite: You must be a professional, or a novice with a Handicap Index not exceeding 0.4. If you meet those criteria, you can register to play at champs.usga.org starting at 9 a.m. ET on Feb. 18. The entry deadline is 5 pm ET on April 8.
Although winning the US Open as a qualifier seems like a long shot, there is precedent for success. At last year’s US Open at Oakmont, six finalists finished in the top 25, including Carlos Ortiz, who finished fourth, and four-time PGA Tour winner Chris Gotterup.
