The timing of the sacking, which comes less than 24 hours after a crushing defeat at Newcastle left Spurs hovering above the relegation zone, added a layer of visible tension to the record.
Ange Postecoglou reacts to the news of Thomas Frank’s dismissal
The former captain of Manchester United, Gary Neville, left in disbelief at the development in the atmosphere.
He then revealed to the audience that Postecoglou was actually in the building, originally scheduled to film a special Stick to Football episode scheduled to air next week.
However, following recent news from North London, the production plan was quickly scrapped.
A change has been made to release the episode with Postecoglou this Thursday morning.
When Postecoglou entered the studio to take his seat opposite Neville, he gave a reaction that was subdued and sad.
Simply commenting, “For a while eh,” the Australian acknowledged the true nature of discussing the death of his successor, seconds after it happened.
The full episode will be out on Thursday and it is sure to be a timer.

Postecoglou was sacked by Tottenham despite ending their title drought
The moment was heavy with irony. The 60-year-old was sacked by Tottenham in the summer of 2025, despite leading the club to Europa League glory and finally ending their trophy drought.
His sacking was approved by the board at the time due to a poor run of the league campaign which saw the club finish in 17th place, 13 points ahead of the relegation zone.
| The season | The manager | Games | It wins | Drawings | Loss | Points | Points per game |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 24/25 | Ange Postecoglou | 38 | 11 | 5 | 22 | 38 | 1.00 |
| 25/26 | Thomas Frank | 26 | 7 | 8 | 11 | 29 | 1.12 |
However, under Thomas Frank, Tottenham have found themselves in a similar situation, perhaps even worse, considering how close they are to the relegation zone.
Instead of challenging for the top four, Frank leaves the club in 16th place, just five points above the relegation zone, focused on the relegation battle.
Roberto De Zerbi emerged as a strong candidate for this hot seat
A search is currently underway for a replacement, with many names being linked to the position.
Among them is the former Brighton manager, Roberto De Zerbi, who parted ways with Marseille just hours before Frank was sacked.
His sudden availability may have had a better time for Spurs, who find themselves in need of immediate direction.
The club will be looking for a manager who can not only steer them back from the brink of relegation, but also make a meaningful push into the Champions League, their last realistic chance of redemption this season.
