NHL Rumors: Players The Vancouver Canucks Could Target – Depressed And Prospects

Some distressed players the Vancouver Canucks could target in their rebuild
Harman Dayal and Thomas Drance of the Athletic: Although it may not be as necessary as it was during the flat games, there may be players with salary and time left on their contracts who are not interested in being moved by their team. The Canucks should look for another asset that could be attached to sweeten the pot.
Warren Foegele – Left Wing – Los Angeles Kings – (drafted before Kevin Fiala was lost for the season) One year left at $3.5 million and a season removed from 24 goals. It could acquire and sell by next year’s deadline. The Canucks could trade for Drew O’Connor and add Foegele.
Ryan Strome – Center – Anaheim Ducks – He has another season at $5 million and is a healthy scratch. A natural institution with no trade protection. The Ducks don’t have any issues to worry about, so they likely won’t stick around much, if at all. What about Strome being picked by Teddy Blueger in the middle of the round?
Barrett Hayton – Center – Utah Mammoth – His role has diminished, and he is a pending RFA with arbitration rights this offseason. He will get interest from all over the league that he is available, so for the Canucks to get him, he will have to be part of a big trade, maybe Elias Pettersson or Jake DeBrusk.
Andrew Mangiapane – Left Wing – Edmonton Oilers – The Oilers will need to move $3.6 million in one year if they want to add anyone at the deadline. It would cost a third-round pick to clear the contract.
Oliver Bjorkstrand – Right Wing – Tampa Bay Lightning – On pace for 15 goals and 40 points, but more was expected with a $5.4 million cap hit and getting more power play time. The Lightning don’t have much cap space to work with, and if they can add a difference-maker, they may need to shed some salary.
Some prospects the Vancouver Canucks could direct in their rebuild
Harman Dayal and Thomas Drance of the Athletic: The Vancouver Canucks have pending UFAs Teddy Blueger, Evander Kane and David Kampf to trade before the deadline. Fans are hoping that the seasoned veteran will also be removed.
Sources said the Canucks don’t think they can just trade picks. They will also look at market transactions for rehabilitation projects or distressed veterans’ estates. They will also look to other young players to help them rebuild.
Dominic James and Conor Geekie – Centers – Tampa Bay Lightning – If the Lightning won’t move James as he has been able to hold down a roster spot this year, maybe they can move Geekie, a potential middle-six forward.
Jiri Kulich – Center – Buffalo Sabers – The Sabers have a wave of young forwards around the same age, making it difficult to find opportunities for all of them. With no blood clots this season, and possibly a move up the depth chart, he could be useful for the Sabers looking to add.
Ivan Miroshnichenko – LW – Washington Capitals – Passed on the prospect depth charts, and the Caps are deep at left tackle. His game is something the Canucks could use.
Jared Wright – RW – Los Angeles Kings – Rookie AHL season. It produced well, but not at star level. He can be a solid third line player. Instead of a draft pick, Evander Kane with a salary cap, the Canucks asked for Wright.
Carter Bear – LW – Detroit Red Wings – 2025 13th overall last year. The Red Wings, if they want to make a big splash, could choose to move Bear over Nate Danielson or Axel Sandin-Pellikka.
Max Curran – C – Colorado Avalanche – The Avs don’t have many assets left in the system after years of searching. They may be interested in adding depth at the last minute. He is an interesting long-term project after being drafted in the 5th round of the 2024 draft.
