What data should you focus on when practicing in the simulator?

Welcome to Top 100 Golf Instructors roundtable, where some of the best instructors in the business answer the game’s most pressing questions. The goal? Helping your game and lowering your scores FAST.
Training on a simulator is a great way to get some reps in during the winter. But as you get used to your call center, you might be overwhelmed by the amount of data the sim throws at you.
With each shot you hit, there are many data points recorded and shared on the screen, This is great for improving your swing, but for many golfers, it can also be a little too much information.
So, if you are going to sim to hit balls, what data points should you get indeed what are you focusing on? We asked a panel of Top 100 Teachers for their thoughts.
1. Low point
The low point, swing direction and smash factor are what I would recommend. Simulator mats provide a false sense of security because many golfers don’t really know if they have the right swing. Hard hits with a low point in the right place, going to the right place will prepare you for the season in the real world, on the grass. – Martin Chuck
2. Clubface keys
Any piece of data that has to do with face contact (ball speed, smash factor, and location) is useful, but it also depends on what you’re trying to improve. Clubface data is important to most recreational golfers, though, so keep an eye on that. – Michael Hunt
3. Start the guide
Start the direction and rotate the axis. If your drawings start to the right and the spins axis is to the left (or vice versa) over and over again, you have created a reliable firing pattern. From there you can work to strengthen the numbers or tune others. – Jason Carbone
