NHL Rumors: Don’t sleep on the Dallas Stars

The Dallas Stars are an interesting team to watch

The Daily Faceoff: Jeff Marek on the Dallas Stars being a team to watch. Do they shop in one place in Calgary? And Jason Robertson, who is pending a UFA, is still stuck. They probably won’t sell out in the limited time.

Tyler Yaremchuk: “When we’re sitting there on Friday doing our show, and we’re going to be surprised, like, really surprised, jaw down. Is there one scene that you’re watching? Obviously, the Spitting Chicklets guys have their Brady Tkachuk and Jason Robertson thing. And, like, that’s the end of me as a really good kid, like.

But like, to be fair, I was talking to Brent Wallace earlier this morning at one of our shows here in Edmonton, and he brought it up. I didn’t ask. He said, like, oh, this Brady Tlachuck thing isn’t just a burger thing here in Ottawa. Like, maybe, could Tkachuk be amazing? Is there another situation that you look at somewhere else that is like, maybe only a 25% chance, but like I’m looking at it?

Jeff Marek: “Always, I’m always curious about (Dallas Stars GM) Jim Nill at this time of the year. One, because he’s not shy about the blockbuster, as we’ve seen, with Mikko Rantanen. And no one likes him, a deep defender, more than Jim Nill. So I think it could be, it could be a combination of both.

And listen, the expectation of ownership is, get to the Stanley Cup right, and if that’s your mandate, and they have Tyler Seguin’s money to play with, now. If we are looking for a team that will make a big splash here. Like, do you see Jim Nill, buying everything in Calgary? Like, you pick up, you get your basket, and you go to one grocery store. Like Jim Nill can get what he wants in one team. Do you do it or do you find it contagious?

And man, Robertson’s question. Listen, I know, I know I got a lot, I got a lot of heat last summer I think it was time I put it out there. That wouldn’t be surprising if, you know, they can come to an agreement with Jason Robertson, and he could hit the market.

And here we are. We’ve gone through all the offseason talks between Jason Robertson and the Dallas Stars, and there’s no deal. Now I don’t know that he gets, and I don’t think he gets removed at the deadline.

Like, who knows? Like, I think you want, it sounds like you want something close to Rantanen’s money ($12 million), and I think the Dallas Stars are close to the $10 million number. But if the Dallas Stars win the Stanley Cup, probably, and you’re the Conn Smyth Trophy winner, which you might be, maybe you get that contract.

So I still think they are keeping him. After that, if they don’t win the Stanley Cup, I think all bets are off. But Robertson’s story is still hot, and I think the Dallas Stars are too.

This is another way to go to Dallas year round. And I wonder who, I wonder, who works first in the Center because all three will move. Colorado will make a move. Minnesota will make a move. Dallas will make a move. Who goes first? “
