Rangers Sign Jalen Beeks – MLB Trade Rumors

The Rangers agreed to terms with the lefty reliever Jalen Beeks to a major league contract, reports Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News. Signing is pending for physical. Texas will need to create 40-man roster space once the deal is complete. Beeks is represented by Frontline.
Beeks gets a guaranteed contract just two weeks from the start of the regular season. The veteran southpaw spent the 2025 campaign with the Diamondbacks on a $1.25MM contract. He made 61 appearances, posting a 3.77 earned run average in 57 1/3 innings. There’s a good chance he would have been traded at the deadline had it not been for the three weeks he spent on the injured list in July due to back inflammation.
The 32-year-old finished the season as one of the rare veteran pieces in Arizona’s bullpen. He allowed just four runs over his last 16 1/3 innings. The signs below the bees were in the middle of the road. He had a slightly below average 20.3% strikeout rate with decent but unusual walk marks and a ground ball.
Unlike most relievers out there, Beeks doesn’t have a good breaking ball. He used his cutter about 10% of the time last year. Beeks works best with a 94-95 mph fastball and an upper 80s changeup that serves as his best swing-and-miss pitch. He doesn’t have extreme factionalism as a result. Beeks allowed similar slash lines to left-handed bats (.218/.266/.345) and right-handed bats (.190/.285/.339) alike last year, though his strikeout rate was much higher when he gained platoon.
Beeks will have a few weeks to get ready for the start of the regular season. It will be the Texas bullpen put together for the second straight season. Robert Garcia it is their one upper left; there is a good chance to find savings opportunities. Tyler Alexander will play a long helping role. Beeks is not a pure specialist but can take lefties in lefty matchups in the middle innings.
Garcia, Chris Martin, Cole Winn, Jacob JunisBeeks and Alexander all seem to be guaranteed opening day spots. The former reds are close Alexis Diaz signed a one-year deal, but has been blown out for eight runs in 1 2/3 innings this spring. He still has a few options left and is likely headed to Triple-A.
Rule 5 draft Carter Baumler he needs to stick with the MLB team or be waived and sent back to the Orioles. He gave up just one unearned run with a 4-1 strikeout ratio to go 5 2/3 frames as he earned a spot in the lineup. Minor league signees Ryan Brasier again Josh Sborz they are also in the camp. Sborz had a very exciting spring.
As Jeff Wilson of DLLS Sports notes, this could also give the team a hand in their rotation plans. Left hand Jacob Latz will be in the big leagues by some standards. Latz pitched a lot in freestyle last year but is competitive Kumar Rocker the first work of the fifth. Rocker has a superior pedigree, but Latz was the better pitcher in 2025. There hasn’t been much separation between the two this spring. If the Rangers keep Rocker as the fifth starter, they will have four lefties in their projected Opening Day bullpen lineup.
More to come.
