This sprawling, upscale resort has dominated Scottsdale for four decades

Berkeley Alvarado and Christine Lord are not princesses, but they are goddesses. To be precise, they are the Tequila goddesses who reside at La Hacienda, an upscale Mexican restaurant located inside the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess.

Every year, these certified tequila masters and bar-side storytellers travel to Mexico to continue their libation education and, most importantly, to taste and select a special barrel from the El Tequileno distillery that is brought back to La Hacienda.

La Hacienda’s stunning chandeliers, like the specialty tequila barrel, are also from Mexico.

“I can’t wait to share the great memories I’ve made,” Alvarado said. “Especially the passion and love that goes on behind the scenes when we make tequila.”

It’s the same passion for quality you’ll find throughout Arizona for the largest and longest-running AAA Five Diamond hotel. The Fairmont Scottsdale Princess is a 65-acre resort set against the backdrop of the McDowell Mountains. The spacious grounds encourage visitors to roam. Spanish Colonial architecture is complemented by lush gardens and thoughtfully designed plazas. A total of 750 guest rooms include a selection of superior rooms and suites, many of which enjoy spectacular views of the nearby golf course, TPC Scottsdale’s Stadium course, host to the annual WM Phoenix Open. During tournament week, tour guests even enjoy complimentary access to the 5th fairway.

The Princess offers six unique pool areas, with options for lap swimming, zero-depth entry, a soft white sand beach, a splash pad and 200-meter waterslides. The 44,000-square-foot Well & Being spa has an adults-only rooftop suite. And while you won’t want to swim in the resort’s pool, you can cast a line to catch and release an assortment of bluegill, catfish, tilapia and bass.

Now let’s talk about dining. The Queen has five restaurants in total, three of which are sponsored by famous chefs; Michael Mina’s Bourbon Steak and Richard Sandoval’s two Latin American options: Toro, located in the clubhouse of TPC Scottsdale, and the aforementioned La Hacienda, where you’ll enjoy tableside guacamole, house specialties like carnitas and fresh ceviche, and a selection of 250-plus tequila and agave spirits. But it’s that special bin that you’ll want to pour into.

“The wonderful flavors of caramel, honey and vanilla give you just the right amount of sweetness but still allow the cooked agave to continue to shine,” says Lord. “A very high quality bottle – perfect for new tequila drinkers or tequila connoisseurs. We’re proud and can’t wait for everyone to try it.”

You have heard the goddess, go out to Nkosazane and drink yourself.
