As if there weren’t enough episodes leading up to the 2026 World Cup this summer, Senegal and Morocco are now fighting for the AFCON title months after the finals!

Although Senegal beat Morocco 1-0 in the Afcon final back in January, the Confederation of African Football (Caf) overturned the result and gave Morocco a 3-0 win.
The final game was interrupted for a while when the Senegalese players refused to play because of the penalty decision.
However, the game ended up going on as Senegal won the title, but after two months there was a decision to strip them of the title as they were expected to lose the game.

However, Sky Sports are now reporting that Senegal will appeal the decision, as seen in the video below…

It will be really interesting to see how this saga unfolds, and if it is resolved by the time the World Cup begins in North America this summer.
Both Senegal and Morocco have booked a place in this tournament, although they have been drawn in different groups, but there is always a chance that they will meet later in the tournament.
This could be a huge distraction for both teams, however, and it’s certainly not a good idea to have another story like this dominate after the many other issues surrounding this year’s World Cup.

“How come it took two months to decide something like that? It should have taken them about two minutes,” Winter said.
“It’s complete madness, and it’s damaging to African football, and it’s ruined the night as many people have said.
“I sympathize with Sadio Mane, who I thought was one of the few Senegalese players who came out with honesty as he urged his teammates to return to the field.
“The referee could have easily defeated Senegal at night.”
He continued: “It’s one of the strangest decisions in the history of the championships, that the athletes were chosen as winners two months later, it’s funny.
“What will they do with these players who have received medals?
“It’s a crazy decision. If you’re going to do something like this, you have to do it fast.”
