Sungjae Im shot a third-round 69 on Saturday to move to 11 under par and extend his Valspar Championship lead to two shots with one round remaining.
The 27-year-old South Korean has won twice on the PGA Tour in his debut, but it has been four and a half years since his last title at the 2021 Shriner’s Childrens Open. Since then, Im has completed a period of mandatory military training in his country and recovered from a wrist injury.
“I’ve been earning like this for a while, and I’m sure I’ll be nervous,” said Im Saturday. “But the best I can do is play my game.”
Just behind nine under the division are two other surprising contenders: Brandt Snedeker, the US Presidents Cup captain who has won nine games but has yet to find the winner’s circle since 2018; and David Lipsky, who has yet to win a PGA Tour title.
On Sunday, Im and Snedeker will play in the final pairing of the afternoon at 1:50 pm ET.
