NHL Rumors: Are There Any Management and/or Coaching Changes Coming for the Vancouver Canucks?
Will there be any managerial and/or coaching changes in Vancouver this offseason?
Donnie & Dhali: Elliotte Friedman, when asked about the Vancouver Canucks management and coaching staff, and if there are any changes coming this offseason. Will Jim Rutherford and Adam Foote return next season?
Rick Dhaliwal: “Okay. Canucks, Twitter, let’s go here. It could get crazy.”
Friedman: “Yeah, right.”
Dhaliwal: “We know there are some accounts that get an agenda. They like to do their own thing. They work together, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, they’re asking for changes in Vancouver. The president is fired. The coach is fired. The GM is fired. You can’t fire everybody.”

Friedman: “As I was coming here, and you know, they asked me about Rutherford.” And you know, I talk to him from time to time. And I just don’t see that, I’ve dealt with him enough over the years, you know, 25 years now, like, I’ve been in the business, and he doesn’t sound any different, right?
He is rude. I think, you know, I don’t think you, like he was an NHL goaltender, and now he’s been a manager, what, three decades, four decades. I don’t think you get to that, and win three Stanley Cups without being like FU for people when things go wrong…”
Don Taylor: “We know that.”
Friedman: “And, you know, I’m just thinking, I don’t have, I didn’t get the idea. I know there’s been a lot of rumors about, is it enough? He’s in his 70s. You know, I haven’t talked to him in a long time, but when I talked to him at the beginning of the year, I didn’t get that. I can’t say anything, but I can talk to him the last few times. I didn’t have the idea of a guy going or anything here.
You know, Foot talk. I think others, I find it interesting, said a few weeks ago or recently that there is more love in the dressing room. Some of the issues this year were bigger than Adam Foote.”
Taylor: “Yes.”
Friedman: “Like what was happening in the room, you know, (Quinn) Hughes, the unhappiness that was there, that was bigger than him.
I guess, I’m judging Adam Foote on one thing right now, and that is, are the younger players getting better? I also feel this, that if you hire a coach and change him in a year, it is a failure of the organization. I think, it’s a bad thing.
But, the only thing I’m judging now, Foote on now, is, is (Zeev) Buium getting better? Is (Liam) Ogren getting better? Is (Marco) Rossi getting better? Name any player up and down the list you want to have that you think is a part of…”
NHL Rumors: What will the Vancouver Canucks do with Elias Pettersson?
Taylor: “(Tom) Willander?”
Friedman: “Yeah, Willander. Are they getting better? To me, that’s how Foote should be judged. And I think the other question you have to ask yourself is, safe, for the sake of argument, McKenna’s a Canuck next year. Do you think Foote can teach him the ways of the NHL?”
