The Gunners were very poor in all departments, with goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga making a terrible mistake in Man City’s first goal, while strikers such as Bukayo Saka, Kai Havertz, and Viktor Gyokeres also did not contribute enough.
Nico O’Reilly scored both of City’s goals as they went on to lift the trophy, and few would argue that it wasn’t deserved.
Read on for our ratings of Arsenal players in action most of these players will soon want to forget…
Arsenal vs Manchester City player ratings
Kepa Arrizabalaga – 2/10 – Unsatisfying on the ball, and unfortunately he always looked prone to make a mistake, which finally came when he failed to deal with the cross of the first goal. It’s certainly the end of his first big games for Arsenal.
William Saliba – 7/10 – He kept Erling Haaland pretty quiet, and is probably the only Arsenal player who gets a lot of credit as it’s hard to find much he did wrong on the day.
Gabriel Magalhaes – 6/10 – Not the worst player on the pitch by any means, but not his usual composure on the ball, which made it difficult for Arsenal to build back.
Ben White – 4/10 – While Ben White has been a top player for most of his Arsenal career, it is perhaps easy to see why Jurrien Timber is now the clear first choice when fit. Jeremy Doku ran White who played most of the game when you see that Timber may have done the best to keep the City player quiet.
Piero Hincapie – 4/10 – Like White on the other hand, it was a really unsatisfying display from Piero Hincapie. The Ecuadorian player could not handle Antoine Semenyo and probably should have been replaced by Riccardo Calafiori.
Martin Zubimendi – 5/10 – He’s just a little off the pace and can’t control the field as well as he can. Martin Zubimendi is perhaps tired, more than anything else, after starting so many games in what has been a tense season for Arsenal.
Declan Rice – 6/10 – He worked harder than his teammates, but he didn’t deliver as high as he could have.
Kai Havertz – 4/10 – Maybe you’re not ready enough to start a big game like this, and it showed. Kai Havertz has a role to play in Arsenal’s team, and he has missed out through injury, but it’s clear that Eberechi Eze would have started and had a big impact if he was fit enough.
Watch Saka – 3/10 – Considering he was Arsenal’s captain that day and is their highest paid player, this was a far cry from Bukayo Saka. The England midfielder has been out of the picture all these years and has not been in the spotlight this season. To appear and play like this in such an important game is unforgivable.
Leandro Trossard – 4/10 – Pretty was silent, as she had been there for a long time. Somehow he was not replaced by Gabriel Martinelli until the closing stages.
Viktor Gyokeres – 4/10 – He worked hard and caused City some problems with his early moves, but you want more from your marquee striker signing in a major cup final.
