Adam Mazur Will Miss 2026 Season After Elbow Surgery

Marlins is right Adam Mazur will undergo elbow surgery today and miss the entire 2026 season as a result, MLB.com’s Christina De Nicola reports. Mazur was not locked into Miami’s rotation but was among the top depth options in case of injury Sandy Alcantara, Eury Pérez, Chris Paddack or possibly the fourth and fifth beginnings Max Meyer again Braxton Garrett. It is not yet clear what type of procedure he will need. Mazur recently reported a sprained elbow to the team and was immediately sent for an evaluation by renowned surgeon Keith Meister.
Mazur, 26, came to the Marlins alongside the pitcher Graham Pauleyhope to get higher Robby Snelling and the league’s youngest player Jay Beshears in the 2024 trade that sent the lefty Tanner Scott and it’s okay Bryan Hoeing for the Padres. He’s a 2022 second-rounder who has posted big numbers at the Double-A level but has struggled at both the Triple-A level (5.03 ERA, 168 1/3 innings) and in limited big league work (6.22 ERA, 63 2/3 innings).
In 2025, Mazur split the season between Triple-A Jacksonville and Miami, pitching 107 1/3 innings with a 4.36 ERA in the former and 30 innings with a 4.80 ERA in the latter. He turned in solid hitting and walk rates in Jacksonville but was more prone to keeping his ERA down. Homers weren’t a problem in his six major league starts, but he recorded a career-low 13.7% strikeout rate in his 30 MLB frames.
After the exchange Edward Cabrera to the Cubs and Ryan Weathers for the Yankees, the Marlins entered camp with Alcantara, Pérez and free agent signing Paddack locked in the rotation. Meyer and Garrett both pitched just four innings this spring, but both are top 10 prospects and top prospects who have made it to the majors before.
Garrett had a 3.63 ERA in 247 2/3 innings from 2022-23 before 2024 UCL surgery wiped out his entire 2025 season. Meyer has a 5.29 ERA in 25 career starts but has had good starts to his seasons in both 2024 and 2025. Miami picked him up in 2024 despite that promising start, keeping him out for months and leaving Meyer six days shy of the service time he would need to become a free agent following the 2028 season instead of the 2029 season. In 2025, a hip injury developed and eventually required season-ending surgery.
Depth options on the 40-man roster include a swingman Janson Junk (4.17 ERA, 110 innings in 2025), Ryan Gusto (acquired from the Astros last summer Jesus Sánchez trading), Bradley Blalock (acquired from the Rockies in January) and a 2020 second rounder Dax Fulton (he’s healthy again after multiple injuries, including an internal brace procedure in June 2023). The aforementioned Snelling and his left-handed partner Thomas White it is the two revolving arms which are most remarkable in waiting; both are ranked among baseball’s top 100 prospects, but neither needs to be added to the 40-man roster yet. That will change dramatically in ’26, as both are considered nearly MLB-ready. White is the more highly regarded of the two but has less experience in the minors, given his status as a 2024 draft pick compared to Snelling, who was drafted in 2023.
