Liverpool or Man United next?

It is only the 13th of January but we have already seen the managers of Chelsea, Manchester United and Real Madrid since the month started.

The latest is Xabi Alonso, who was yesterday given his marching orders by Real Madrid, despite a good record of 24 wins in 34 games this season, a winning rate of 70.59 percent.

The Spanish tactician will still be a wanted man, however, after an impressive performance as Bayer Leverkusen manager.

Alonso’s unbeaten Bundesliga run and run to the Europa League final saw him heavily linked with the Liverpool job once Jurgen Klopp took over, however that eventually ended up with Arne Slot instead.

Where is Xabi Alonso after leaving Real Madrid?

However, with Liverpool now struggling in the second season of the slot and a gap opening up at Man United, could we see Alonso back in the dugout sooner rather than later?

The 44-year-old may not have been the best fit for Real Madrid and the unique demands of the job, but he is still someone who could attract clubs like Liverpool or United, depending on where they are in the summer.

Here’s a look at the clubs that could be worth a closer look when it comes to Alonso’s future in the coming months…

Liverpool

One of Alonso’s former clubs from his playing days, Liverpool will not hold on to the Slot if they fail to deliver the Champions League title. The Dutch tactician was perhaps lucky with the team he inherited from Klopp and Alonso’s style of play may be better for a long time.

Manchester United

If you are a fan of online slots games and other types of casinos and betting sites, you will probably be looking at the next problems of the manager of Man Utd, and Alonso will be in the equation now, with the Red Devils still to decide who will replace Ruben Amorim permanently, temporarily hire until the end of the season. United couldn’t have wished for a better newfound name.

With Pep Guardiola’s future still in doubt ahead of the summer, could the Man City job just present a golden opportunity for Alonso? One imagines that he would be a good follower of Guardiola, having played under him at Bayern Munich and using similar tactics to his teams in his coaching career so far.

Chelsea

Chelsea recently signed Liam Rosenior, so this isn’t exactly a vacancy we’ll see emerge anytime soon, although we know the Blues tend to make quick managerial changes when things don’t go well. Rosenior is inexperienced and a bit of a gambler for the job, so Alonso may have one eye on how things look at Stamford Bridge at the end of the season.

Arsenal

Mikel Arteta has done a fantastic job at Arsenal, but the trophies are yet to come. If after spending so much money in the summer there is still no title on display at the Emirates, surely the Gunners could start thinking about a change in manager to help them take that next step, when Alonso shows he can deliver silverware.

Bayern Munich

One of Alonso’s former clubs, if Vincent Kompany can deliver the Champions League, perhaps this is another job worth considering. It’s a long shot at the moment, but Bayern will know what Alonso did with Leverkusen in the Bundesliga, and it’s the kind of big club that could attract the Spaniard.

PSG

Finally, Luis Enrique is another big name manager who will leave this summer as he will not sign a new contract with PSG. Alonso would be a leading candidate to help build on the solid work Enrique has done there, but would the man himself be so keen on a job that in some ways bears so many similarities to the struggles he faced at the Bernabeu?
