An electric company range finder makes a lot of sense

Wwelcome to I triedGOLF.com’s series about golf gear – apparel, gear, equipment and more – that we just took out for a spin. We are here to offer our reliable, non-golf or near-golf items. So, scroll down to read about our favorite new (or new to us) golf products.
Motocaddy recently sent me one of their new Motocaddy PRO 5000 Laser Rangefinders to try out. I’ll be honest, I wasn’t thinking too much about the delivery. There are a TON of rangefinders on the market right now, most made by the same factories with the same features and benefits, but Motocaddy has managed to sneak in a little hidden feature. If you are a Motocaddy cart user or an electric caddy user, it makes a lot of sense.

Clearing the basics quickly; The PRO 5000 has all the features you expect from a 2026 rangefinder. 6x magnification to see what you’re aiming for, slope switch to turn slope calculations on and off for use in tournament play, ability to switch between yards and meters with the promise of +/-1 yard accuracy, golf side magnet to stick to golf side. usually, ask me I would know), a 350 yard pin lock with a full 1500 yard shooting range and an adjustable diopter to make sure you can actually see what you’re trying to separate. It also has USB-C which is an amazing bonus that every rangefinder company, I’m looking at you Bushnell, should use so we can charge our rangefinders in the car when we go to the course.

I also really like the look and feel of the rangefinder. It’s heavy enough to feel like it’s well-built and not plastic, but small enough to fit neatly in the hands. The stormtrooper-esque look is cool, and the rangefinder comes across as premium, not cheap. I can’t tell you how many rangefinders on the market feel like they were made to be made. Those are cheap for a reason. It’s clear that Motocaddy made some good decisions with their factory when deciding what was important to their new offering, which brings us to the differentiator: the case.

Motocaddy PRO 5000 Rangefinder
Fast, accurate and easy to use, the Motocaddy PRO 5000 Laser offers a range of 1500 yards, accuracy to less than a yard and a clear 6X magnification. Featuring PinLock technology with slope compensation, the PRO 5000 ensures you can always trust your distance.
The case will appear similar to other cases in the market. Nice shell with zipper and bunjee. No matter where you fight, you won’t lose your rangefinder because of the charge. But it’s the back of the case that makes this a great choice for Motocaddy users. There is a small slot on the back so you can attach the case to the Motocaddy accessory station. The accessory station is the hub of the cart at the top with the power controller and where you attach the power caddy. It has several attachment points that hold sand bottles, score card holders, phone holders and other accessories that now include your rangefinder case. The easiest way to keep the rangefinder close at hand without taking it out of the pocket of the bag, or taking it out of the bag and moving it to a place that is less than ideal. It may sound silly but I spent a year pulling my rangefinder out of the bag hanging, and once the bag is in the Motocaddy electric caddy, it’s actually pretty annoying to get to the finder. The new position at the top is perfect, and makes the whole thing make sense.

Now, you might be thinking what I’m thinking. The whole selling point of a rangefinder is that. And I wouldn’t blame you for thinking that, I thought it too. This might be a better buy for the $50 case than the entire rangefinder itself. But after using the rangefinder for a few rounds, there is no damage to it. It does the job well, and at $250 it’s worth buying if you’re looking to buy a new rangefinder that you can trust to go with the Motocaddy electric caddy. What’s more, they don’t just sell a case.
