Aston Villa are ready to sell Emiliano Martinez for just £40m to Man United

Aston Villa appear ready to sell Emiliano Martinez this January, according to Football Insider.

Despite being a fan favorite and a key player in the club’s recent resurgence, new reports suggest the Midlands club could be willing to let go of the Argentine stopper.

Emiliano Martinez, widely regarded as one of the best in his position in the world, could be available for a fee that represents a significant amount in the modern transfer market, which could spark a fierce battle for his signature.

Speaking on Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, transfer expert Pete O’Rourke provided an insight into the developing situation.

He suggested that Martinez’s departure had been on the cards for some time.

Although a move did not materialize at the time, O’Rourke highlighted Inter Milan as a potential suitor, as their current goalkeeper, Yann Sommer, is out of contract. However, the financial aspect is key.

While he noted that Martinez is one of the “highest earners” at Villa, a move to Italy could prove difficult, the £40m price tag makes him an attractive prospect for deep-pocketed Premier League rivals.

He said:

“We thought he would leave in the summer window, we had those scenes in the last game of the season at Villa Park.

“Obviously the move didn’t happen in the summer window, but he’s one of the best goalkeepers and it’s no surprise that teams are looking at him.

“We know that Inter Milan will be in the market for a new goalkeeper next summer because Yan Sommer is out of contract and Martinez will tick a lot of boxes for them.

“It will not be an easy thing to do because the money that Villa would want will be very high.

“He is under contract until 2029, so you will be looking at around £30-40million and a player like Martinez, who is one of the highest earners at Villa Park.

“Wages can be a problem for them as well for that but I am sure that a project like Inter will attract someone like Martinez.”

Manchester United have a long-term interest in Emiliano Martinez

While Inter Milan are closely monitoring the situation, Manchester United have been strongly linked with the Argentine since multiple transfer windows.

In fact, in the summer, Ruben Amorim wanted to sign him in the summer again but the club management ended up going with Senne Lammens.

The Red Devils have faced constant scrutiny over their defensive stability, and the prospect of signing a Premier League-proven goalkeeper with a winning mentality is reportedly very appealing to the management at Old Trafford.

United’s interest stems from Martinez’s ability to organize the defense and his distribution skills, which are compatible with a modern style of play.

If Villa were to hold out for £40m, that’s a figure United could comfortably meet, potentially allowing them to boycott any plans Inter Milan may have this summer.

Martinez will be a world class player

There is little controversy about Martinez’s lineage. As O’Rourke said, “He’s one of the best goalkeepers in the world and it’s no wonder clubs are looking at him.”

Since joining Villa, Martinez has taken his game to the next level, culminating in playing for Argentina in Qatar, where his penalty kick heroics secured the World Cup.

His leadership, box presence, and elite shot-stopping ability make him a revolutionary signing for any club.

Defending a player of his caliber, who guarantees points on his own. for a fee in the region of £40m would be widely regarded as a summer bargain.
