Mauricio Pochettino has given a big welcome to Tottenham as Thomas Frank faces a possible sack

Former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has hit back at speculation about a surprise return to North London, saying the club “need to fight” for the Premier League and Champions League.
His comments come at a time of great pressure on current coach Thomas Frank, whose tenure is reportedly “in critical condition” following a string of poor results.
Mauricio Pochettino says Tottenham need to compete at the highest level
Speaking on the High Performance Podcast, Pochettino, who is currently in charge of the US national team, was tight-lipped about the history of his former club.
While Spurs ended a 17-year drought by winning the Europa League last season under Ange Postecoglou, Pochettino insists such honors are not enough for the Tottenham club.
“It is true that Tottenham is a club that must think about winning the Premier League and the Champions League.
“Their places are the Champions League (level), and before we didn’t have that, but now it’s about winning the Premier League and the Champions League.
“The fans were happy for us because we challenged the Premier League and the Champions League.
“Winning the Europa League won by the team (last season) is good because when you celebrate the trophy it’s good but it’s not enough.
“It is not enough for a club like Tottenham to challenge for the Carabao Cup or the FA Cup or the Europa League or the Conference (League).
“It’s a club that should be, or needs to be in the Champions League, and fight for the Champions League, and try to believe you can win the Champions League, and fight for the Premier League, and believe you can win the Premier League.”
Thomas Frank Tottenham’s future remains uncertain
The timing of this comment could not be worse for Thomas Frank.
Tottenham are currently facing a tough run in the Premier League, sitting in 15th place and just six points above the relegation zone.
After losing to Manchester United 2-0, Spurs have played seven league games without a win.
Frank admitted his side are ‘craving’ a win ahead of Tuesday’s clash with Newcastle United.
Reports suggest he could be one game away from the sack, with management running out of patience as the club’s domestic season falls apart. Pochettino has been identified as a potential replacement.
When the Dane guided Spurs to the Champions League Round of 16, his league record, just seven wins from 25 games, made his position even stronger.
Pochettino has unfinished business at Tottenham
The ‘world-class’ Argentine remains a popular figure at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, largely due to his five-year transfer between 2014 and 2019.
Under his guidance, Spurs became regular contenders, finishing as Premier League runners-up in 2016/17 with their highest ever points tally.
His reign culminated in a run to the 2019 Champions League final, but lost to Liverpool.
Although he left the group after five months, his unfinished business has become a recurring theme.
With his USMNT contract set to expire after the 2026 World Cup, many fans are already dreaming of a reunion to bring the club back to its former glory.
