However, speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano also revealed that Manchester United are still paying close attention to the Nottingham Forest midfielder’s situation.

This is similar to what BBC Sport also reported on Anderson’s future, and Chelsea are also understood to be interested in the England international as a replacement for Enzo Fernandez, as we have exclusively reported.

Fabrizio Romano details Elliot Anderson’s transfer saga

Discussing the latest on Anderson’s future, Romano explained that MCFC have moved into an advanced stage of their negotiations with the player’s representatives.

Man Utd fans will be pleased to hear, however, that they are not completely out of the race just yet.

“Man City are trying to sign Elliot Anderson. They are in advanced discussions with his agent in advanced discussions about … just asking about the player’s condition,” Romano said.

“Therefore, nothing has been agreed, nothing has been done, nothing has been finalized but I mean advanced discussions about asking the player.”

He added: “So Man City has been clear. They see Elliot Anderson as a target. Also, we have not yet reached the stage of personal terms being agreed. We have not yet reached the stage of a done deal. We have not yet reached the final stage of the deal, but Manchester City have certainly confirmed their interest in those close to Anderson.

“Manchester United is paying attention to the situation. Man United loves the player, but at the moment Man City is pushing because even in the middle of the field Man City will be very busy.”

Elliot Anderson transfer – who should he choose?

At the moment it sounds like it will be either City or United for Anderson, although Chelsea cannot be completely ruled out either.

As we previously reported, the Blues are big fans of the 23-year-old, but are expected to be slightly behind the two Manchester clubs in terms of the work done in the deal.

On the face of it, City appear to be the best move for Anderson, who could play a key role as a replacement for Rodri.

He will also join the winning project at the Etihad Stadium, even if this season has not gone completely to organize Pep Guardiola’s team.

There are no similar guarantees at United or Chelsea, who have bounced in and out of the top four in recent years and recorded and changed managers several times.

City will be a stable place, although Anderson will remain open-minded as MUFC and CFC are two big clubs.
