During the Australian Open, ATPtour.com will bring fans an insight into the leaders of key statistical categories, showing how performance in 2025 has all been combined with successful seasons and the promise of more great times to come in 2026.

Australia’s Alex de Minaur was a force on the hard courts in 2025, racking up a career-best 43 wins and breaking his previous benchmarks at the top.

One of the fastest players on Tour, De Minaur suffocates his opponents from the ground up with his blistering pitches, refined ball striking and relentless intensity. His grit was on full display at the ATP 500 in Washington, DC, where he saved three match points to hold off Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.

Speaking after his first-round win at the Australian Open, De Minaur said two timing tactics have fueled his success on hard courts: low groundstrokes and playing close to the baseline.

“My shots on both sides are flat, which means the ball moves when it hits the court… if the ball goes back to the opponent quickly and quickly, that doesn’t really give him much time to think,” said De Minaur.

“I’ve always felt that I was able to use my speed to rebound and play defense, but one of the biggest things that helped me take that next step was using my speed to take time away from my opponents and that’s where positioning is so important.

“It’s more difficult than when I’m a few meters behind the first line, and my ball is slow and empty and my opponent has all the time in the world to produce and hit winners than me, especially with the way guys are hitting the ball these days. If they have time, they knock the ball. So I do my best not to give my opponents time.”

De Minaur’s Hard-Court Record, Last Three Seasons

2025 43-17
2024 30-15
2023 36-18

De Minaur’s victory in Washington, DC marked his 10th Tour title, eight of which came on hard courts. Among other strong court results in 2025, the 26-year-old reached the quarter-finals of the Australian Open and the US Open. He was a finalist in Rotterdam and a semi-finalist in Beijing and Vienna.

While De Minaur recorded the hardest match win last season, Jannik Sinner boasted the highest winning percentage (92.9 percent, 39-3 match record). Sinner won five of his six titles in 2025 on hard courts, including the Australian Open and the Nitto ATP Finals in his native Italy. De Minaur was fifth in court winning percentage last season behind Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic and Felix Auger-Aliassime.
