Inside the driver is powering two Phoenix Open competitors

Both Si Woo Kim and Nicolai Hojgaard entered the clinic with their Callaway drivers in very different ways this week.
The pair entered the final round of the WM Phoenix Open tied for second at 12 under par, a shot behind Hideki Matsuyama and are third and fourth this week in Strokes Gained: Off the Tee.
Kim does it while leading the field in driving accuracy with more than 80 percent of his fairways hit, while Hojgaard does it with a combination of distance (T22, 320 yards) and accuracy (T12, 67%). The different ways they play require very different driver setups, but what’s common is that both players recently switched to different versions of Callaway’s new Quantum Triple Diamond platform.
Continue reading below for more details on their setup.
This is Woo Kim
As we wrote two weeks ago in Tour Report, Kim finally gave up his Paradym Ai-Smoke Triple Diamond driver that he had been clinging to for the past two seasons.
“It’s almost plug and play,” said Callaway Tour Content Manager Thompson. “I mean, there wasn’t a lot of work done with Si Woo. He hit a few shots, and he was like, ‘This thing is amazing,’ and it really was.”
Kim isn’t one of the fastest players on Tour, so he’ll take any reasonable speed advantages he can get. He also sits at the high end of the spin threshold, making killing spins a priority.
That’s why you see him playing the Triple Diamond model which is more compact than the Triple Diamond Max.
The first row was also important in getting Kim to switch to his Ai Smoke, which is why you’ll see below in his specs he keeps the rear weight on the heel side of the team to encourage the first row on the left.
Features of Si Woo Kim’s Quantum Triple Diamonds:

Nicolai Hojgaard
Meanwhile, Hojgaard is at the peak of speed on the PGA Tour, already ranked second in golf speed this season after finishing third in driving distance last year.
His switch to the Quantum Triple Diamond Max driver took a little more time, but he made the move this week and it’s paying off.
For all his speed, Hojgaard plays with more stability and spin (high 2000s) than you might think. He uses the top Triple Diamond Max, which is the most stable of the two Triple Diamond platforms, with a Fujikura Ventus TR Blak that is just over 45″.
“While this may work well from a distance, this high spin setup gives him complete control,” said Callaway Tour Rep Zach Smith. “He still runs close to 190 ball speed using the triforce technology, so he doesn’t give up anything compared to the field.
“Nico has one of the most efficient outfits on the move, and he has a low spin loft on the bag, which keeps him low on spin so we’re always working to increase his ball control.”
He also plays the Chrome Tour X+ golf ball, which is a spinner version of the Chrome Tour X, with a higher driver, giving him a better combination of control.
Nicolai Hojgaard’s Quantum Triple Diamond specifications:
Head: Quantum Triple Diamond Max 10.5
Actual loft: 11.2˚
Shaft: Fujikura Ventus TR Black 6-X
Length: 45 1/8″ EOG
Weight: 3 g front / 9 g back toe / 6 g rear heel
Swingweight: D2.3
