Sebastian Korda will enter the court on Sunday to face the World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz at the Miami Open presented by Iau carrying momentum, having won an ATP Tour title in February in Delray Beach and reached the final of the ATP Challenger Tour earlier this year. But things are not going well for America only on the court.
Less than five months ago, Korda proposed to his longtime partner, Ivana Nedved, whom he met when he was nine.
“We started dating five years ago and he is just the person I want to spend the rest of my life with,” said Korda. “And it couldn’t have been an easier decision than asking her to marry me.”
The exchange took place a few days before Korda’s final tournament of the year, in Athens, where the 25-year-old pushed his eventual Nitto ATP Finals rival Lorenzo Musetti to the semi-finals.
So far this season, Korda has beaten three opponents who have reached the Top 10 in the PIF ATP Rankings, and has won 13 of his last 16 matches at all levels. After hoisting the trophy in Delray Beach, Korda enjoyed a special moment with his youngest nephew, the son of his sister and LPGA star Jessica Korda. Sebi’s other sister, Nelly Korda, also recently got married.
Family means everything to Korda, and Nedved plays a big role in that. Through struggle and success, he has always been by her side.
“He’s honestly one of the nicest people in my life. He always sees the bright side of everything,” Korda said. “He always tells me how it is when I do something wrong. He’s not afraid to tell me things I’m not doing well and things I can do better. And it’s just a big mix. He really cares about me as a tennis player, but more importantly, as a person as well.”
Nedved doesn’t have a tennis background, but he’s always there to listen to Korda, give any advice he can give, and, most importantly, enjoy life away from the tennis courts.
“It’s refreshing to just turn off the tennis side of it all and be a normal person, go out to dinner, explore some cities and enjoy our time together,” Korda said. “We love going to the zoo together. It’s nice to switch off, not think too much about tennis and enjoy each other’s time and the life we live.”
Korda explained that Nedved “sacrifices a lot” to support him, spending a lot of time on the road and away from his family. So the former number 15 player in the PIF ATP Rankings is always trying to find ways to be there for his partner, too.

The three-time ATP Tour number one has learned a lot from Nedved over the years, with the biggest lesson he’s taken from him being the importance of being happy as a person above all else – sports and otherwise.
“I feel like when you’re happy as a person, the rest follows,” said Korda. “You’re so happy on the court, you don’t have to deal with anything you don’t need to deal with just to be happy.”
These days are very exciting for Korda and Nedved, there is a lot of wedding planning to do. That’s all the more reason they can leave the tennis talk behind when their day on the courts is over.
“The split is about 99 to 1,” Korda said, laughing, with Nedved leading the charge. “I have absolutely no taste in any of those things. But he’s doing a great job. He’s taking it personally and it’s going to be great.” Read More From the Racquets & Relationships Series
