Former midfielder Jamie Redknapp, now a popular Sky Sports commentator, has sparked new drama in the Premier League transfer market.

A pundit has claimed that Liverpool have made a late bid to sign Antoine Semenyo, despite widespread belief that the Bournemouth forward is set to join Manchester City.

Semenyo has been heavily linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium for several weeks, with reports suggesting that Man City have already advanced, not only in talks with Bournemouth, but also in talks with the player himself.

Multiple outlets say Semenyo has told Bournemouth of his desire to join City, driven by the chance to work under Pep Guardiola, a manager renowned for developing attacking talent.

With all signs pointing to a move to Manchester seemingly inevitable, Redknapp’s latest comments presented an unexpected twist.

Liverpool could still be in the race to sign Semenyo

Speaking live on Sky Sports, the Liverpool midfielder revealed that City’s pursuit may not be as easy as previously thought, revealing that Liverpool could still be in the race.

Redknapp says: “I’m not sure. I heard there might be a bit of a turnaround. I think Liverpool could still be in the equation.

“I think, I have to be honest, I think that if they came in – why maybe they didn’t come strong, I wonder.

“If you look at that position with Mohamed Salah and how long he will stay in the team, we don’t know for sure that when you have a player of such quality and he shows that he is a winner, he comes up in big moments.

“Why wouldn’t you like him? I’m not saying it’s a Sky Sports news moment, but what I’m saying is, I heard tonight that it might not be a forgone conclusion that he’s about to be tested at Man City.

“There may be a little twist and I hope so.”

There may be a late turn in the transfer saga

Redknapp’s comments prompted speculation that Liverpool may be considering Semenyo as part of succession planning for Mohamed Salah, whose long-term future at Anfield remains unclear.

However, it remains to be seen whether Liverpool will formalize their interest or if City’s advanced negotiations will be enough to complete the deal.

Redknapp’s insider whispers suggest that nothing is confirmed yet and as he says, the transfer saga may yet contain “a little twist.”

With the window open and one of the Premier League’s most impressive attacking talents available to move on, the coming days could be eventful for the Bournemouth star.
