Man United are evaluating the terms of signing midfielder Carlos Baleba

Manchester United have taken the first steps in their long-term plans for the midfielder by looking at the conditions necessary to sign Carlos Baleba from Brighton & Hove Albion, according to Sky Sports.
While no breakthrough is expected in the January transfer window, the investigation shows United’s growing urgency to overhaul their midfield ahead of a key rebuilding phase under Ruben Amorim.
The Red Devils drew 1-1 with Leeds United on Sunday and it was another game that proved that they urgently need to add to their squad, especially in midfield.
Baleba has quickly developed into one of the best young midfielders in the Premier League.
Man United still love Carlos Baleba
He is an athletic midfielder who can contribute in both defensive and attacking areas as he helps his team attack and provide strength and security in front of the defense.
Brighton, well-known for their tough negotiations, are understood to be reluctant to look at any sales before the summer and would only entertain offers above £100 million, a price which closes the door to any realistic January move.
Baleba is the perfect profile that Man United are looking for right now, a dynamic, modern midfielder who can cover the pitch, break lines and passers and provide defensive protection.
However, the Seagulls’ strong stance and financial impact means United are unlikely to extend the deal this month, instead keeping him on their shortlist for the coming windows.
As a result, United continue to evaluate a number of other targets across Europe and the Premier League.
One such option is Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson, who has impressed with his strength, versatility and ability to contribute offensively and defensively.
The Red Devils have identified several midfielders

Another name being closely watched is Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton. Wharton’s calm distribution and tactical acumen have attracted the attention of several top clubs, and Palace are expected to resist mid-season interest unless a major offer arrives.
United are also monitoring João Gomes at Wolverhampton Wanderers, whose tenacity and ability to press has made him a key figure at Molineux.
In France, Lille youngster Ayyoub Bouaddi is being tracked as a potential long-term investment, while Olympiacos’ Christos Mouzakitis has also emerged as a data-driven option for the future.
Instead of spending too much in January, the club seems to be focusing on gathering information, building relationships and putting themselves in a position to make a decisive move in the summer window, where other options will be available.
