Mohamed Salah could play a key role in deciding Cody Gakpo’s future at Liverpool, according to former Manchester United boss Mick Brown.

Cody Gakpo’s future at the club was uncertain last summer with Bayern Munich showing a strong interest in signing him.

However, the Reds ultimately decided to keep Gakpo while selling Luis Diaz to Bayern instead, with the Netherlands international committing his future to the club by signing a new contract.

Mohamed Salah has decided to decide Cody Gakpo’s future at Liverpool

Although he signed a contract, Gakpo’s poor performance this season has caused speculation about his future in the club.

Brown believes that Gakpo’s future at the club will depend on Salah’s future.

He told Football Insider:

“Gakpo is someone who could have left last summer.

“He was one of the few players who were talked about, the attacking players at Liverpool who didn’t impress as much as Slot wanted.

“He ended up staying but his performance this season did not do much to change the opinion that he may be below the level they are hoping for.

“If that’s the case, if a big offer is made from a place like Bayern Munich, I’m sure they’ll listen and be ready to let him move on.”

“The problem is that Mohamed Salah will play a big role because there are many chances that he will leave Liverpool and they will not want many changes.

“After everything that happened last summer and all the chaos, I can’t see Liverpool letting more than one striker go, otherwise it would add to the feeling of being unsatisfied.

“So a lot will depend on what happens with Salah. If he leaves, I expect them to keep Gakpo, and if he stays, maybe Gakpo will leave.”

Salah’s Liverpool future remains uncertain

Salah’s good time at Liverpool could come to an end at the end of the season.

The Egyptian striker spent nine years at Anfield and, in that time, rewrote the club’s record books while establishing himself as one of the greatest players in Liverpool’s history and one of the best ever to play in the Premier League.

With 254 goals and 121 assists in the team, Salah has contributed to Liverpool’s success, helping the Reds win two Premier League titles, the Champions League, two League Cups and the FA Cup.

Although the current season has been one of his quieter campaigns in a Liverpool shirt, Salah has still registered 17 goals in 31 games, highlighting the impressive standards he has set for himself.

That said, Salah’s future at the club is now in doubt after a falling out between him and Slot earlier in the season.

Clubs in the Saudi Pro League have long been strongly interested in signing Salah and, while the Egyptian has been incredibly loyal to Liverpool, reports suggest he could now be open to a move.

Cody Gakpo’s future may depend on Salah’s decision

Liverpool are reportedly keen to avoid a repeat of last summer’s raids, when several players were linked with moves at the same time.

According to Brown, that situation means the club is unlikely to allow multiple attackers to leave in one window.

If Salah leaves, Liverpool are likely to keep Gakpo to maintain stability in their front line. However, if Salah decides to stay at Anfield, the club may be more willing to listen to offers for the Dutch striker.

Because of this, Salah’s future may ultimately determine whether Gakpo remains part of Liverpool’s plans moving forward.
