The recent tropical storms hitting the Northeast have me dreaming of warmer days, which, in fact, are not too far away.
But even when the snow melts and the golf courses reopen, there will still be cold mornings and spring days when bundling up will still be necessary.
And as I recently learned, the G-Tech hand warmer can be a great asset on those early mornings.
Fortunately, I – oblivious to how bad Winter Storm Hernando was going to be when I left – snuck off to South Carolina last weekend for some bonus golf. But even areas South of the Mason-Dixon line are not immune to the power of Old Man Winter.
While the first two days of the trip were in the 70s, on the last two days, temperatures dropped significantly, reaching the high 50s and freezing temperatures in the morning. My TV weather reporting days are behind me, but I’m guessing the heavy downpour had something to do with the storm hitting the I-95 tunnel about 600 miles to the North.
Shorts quickly gave way to sweaters and rain pants on day three, which not only saw temperatures in the 40s, but also 20-30 mph winds. That’s when I was so glad I had the G-Tech Sport 4.0 Hand Warmer.
Now, one thing you have to understand about me is that while I run a lot – I rarely wear shorts and a light pullover in the 50s without the wind – my hands don’t get the same memo. Back in high school, I used to do a lap on the driving range before playing in a cold weather tournament to get the blood flowing in my hands.
Even when I take off the layers when I start walking and the circulation is going, I still have trouble getting and keeping my hands warm. We all know what it’s like to hold a small gun with cold hands in cold weather, too.
This is where the G-Tech Sport 4.0 Hand Warmer comes in handy.

We’ve all seen the fanny-pack style hand warmers that NFL players use to keep their hands warm between games, but they easily fall out of the way between them. I call them “Quarterback Warmers.”
IG-Tech has taken this concept and added electric heating powered by a battery that is sealed in the material with a waterproof zipper, allowing it to be used in all conditions.
It’s so easy to use and heats up so incredibly fast that you can turn it on, hit a golf shot and by the time you put your hands back in, it’s already on fire.
Version 4.0 has new batteries that not only support USB-A and USB-C charging, but can also charge other devices (like your phone). They also display the charge level on the front so you always know when you need more juice.
And you won’t have to worry about running out of charge in the course with 12 hours and more of battery life, thanks to the advanced circuit board and software inside the bag. It also has the new 3M Insulation.
While you’re wearing it, it’s like any other waist-wrapped hand warmer that you put in front of or behind you, but you can hold on to the hot bar inside to keep yourself warm.
The heat has three settings, red is for sub-freezing temperatures, green is economy mode for longer battery life, and orange is in between. I found myself using the greenest when it was THAT cold, all things considered, but all three settings warmed up very quickly.

When you’re on the golf course, you have two options for using your G-Tech hand warmer: When it’s time to hit your tee shot, you can simply open the adjustable strap and hang it in your bag while you make the round, or you can flip it behind you, out of the way of your arms.
Both options work well. On a chilly weekend at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am two weeks ago, we saw 54-hole leader Akshay Bhatia take off his G-Tech hand warmer and hang it in his bag to hit his shot.
I found that flipping the hand warmer around my back was enough to get it out of the way and not hinder my swing.
I also have a big tip for players who like to travel when using these hand warmers: carry your bag.
Over the years, I’ve become a card-carrying member of the push cart mafia, but when it’s cold and I want to use a hand warmer, it’s best to hoof it and throw a light bag over your shoulder.

Why? Because when you carry a bag with two straps, both of your hands are free to use the hand warmer. Trying to push a stroller with both hands in a warm place is not easy.
If you love to ride, the G-Tech hand warmer will be great for keeping you warm in the open air as you tackle the trails.

While this winter hasn’t been all golfing in the Northeast, the cool, crisp, snow-free days of spring aren’t too far away.
This G-Tech hand warmer will be the difference between wanting to play and not on other days.
That said, I could see myself using this in many other places, like a soccer game or even doing work in my garage workshop when it’s cold.
But most importantly, this will keep my hands warm, which will make cold weather golf more enjoyable. No more cold snaps!
