Nick Kypreos of the Toronto Star: Toronto Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews is over his slow start and back to normal. It is not known what was interfering with his performance. Regardless, can he get them off his back and into the playoffs?
Matthews has two years left on his contract, and the pressure is on for the Leafs to build a Stanley Cup player. You’ve obviously seen organizational changes, a lack of prospects and draft picks. Could Matthews request a trade, like Matthew Tkachuk and Quinn Hughes?
The Maple Leafs will need to show Matthews that they can still be legitimate contenders. They have goals, a good defender and deep scoring.
