NHL Rumors: Toronto Maple Leafs – How Much, and What’s the Strategy?

The Toronto Maple Leafs have made one move, and several more could happen today

NHL Media: David Pagnotta, when asked how deep the sale of the Toronto Maple Leafs can go, and what is their strategy? Tank as much as possible?

Corey Schneider: “They’ve already started selling Nicolas Roy.

And B) What is their strategy here? Because they don’t own their first round pick. It will go to Boston, unless it is ranked in the top five. So they’re going to try to run down to the top five, hopefully, and keep that pick? Because the last thing you want to do is give the team’s rival a 10th pick, which is possible.

NHL Rumors: Vancouver Canucks, NY Rangers, Minnesota Wild, and Toronto Maple Leafs

Pagnotta: “Yeah, it’s not good at all, the Schneiders, they don’t really want that. But what they do, and it looks like they want to sell as many goods as possible and collect as many pieces as possible as part of it.

And they get into interesting conversations with their other players. We’ll dive into that in a quick second. But more than that, and trying to accumulate other options and possible prospects.

They want to rebuild next season. So they understand where they are this year. It didn’t work any time. So let’s go out there and see if we can get another first round pick or a few seconds of Bobby McMahon, if we can get a second round pick, and Scott Laughton. Can we get a first round pick and some Oliver Ekman-Larsson assets. Troy Stecher is in trouble. Steven Lorentz generated interest.

There are other players who play in this team. Brandon Carlo. Let’s see where else, Matias Maccelli, Max Domi, are listed on the list of various boys.

Interesting names, two interesting ones, that came up during this week were Matthew Knies and Morgan Rielly. And two different situations. Knies and his new, brand new contract. Morgan Rielly has the perfect no-trade ability, similar to what Parayko has with St. Louis. But there are names coming up and some teams are curious if they can get out, at least the Knies out of Toronto.

Now, I think if Toronto is going to seriously consider this, it’s going to have to be some kind of blockbuster-esque move for them to even consider having those conversations or entertain them. But there are other groups who want to know about the availability of Knies.

NHL Rumors: Calgary Flames, Montreal Canadiens, and Toronto Maple Leafs

At the same time, as I said, the name of Morgan Rielly has come up. My gut says this is probably the best thing for the summer, as far as the Knies are concerned, I’m sorry, in honor of Rielly. But there are some discussions out there. I would go back to Anaheim, another team looking for a D, and I wouldn’t be surprised by San Jose. There was some interest there.
