Fabrizio Romano says there are many chances that former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will return to the club.
The Norwegian tactician has had face-to-face meetings with Man Utd, according to Romano on his YouTube channel, and it seems there is now a good chance he will return to Old Trafford for a second spell in charge.
Solskjaer has had a mixed bag at United in the past, and one thinks he will be in charge on an interim basis after Ruben Amorim was sacked this week.
The Red Devils need to find their next managerial appointment after some poor decisions in recent years, and relying on Solskjaer long-term looks like a gamble.
The latest on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s possible return to Manchester United
Discussing the latest in Solskjaer’s talks about returning to United, Romano said: “Let me start today by mentioning Manchester United because the name I have been telling you for days, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, is getting stronger in the inner thoughts of Manchester United.
“Today, we are meeting face to face, Ole Gunnar Solar and the management of Manchester United to discuss this opportunity.” Michael Carrick is also in talks with Manchester United.
“So it will be a big moment for Man United. I can assure you that the feeling is good about Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. He is ready to take the job.
“He is ready to return to Man United. He is ready to accept any situation financially, contractually, in terms of the length of the contract.
“Ole is ready so the talks are going well. Also, we are not waiting about the time for Manchester United to make a final decision. But there is a good chance to see Ole Gunnar Solskjaer return to the team after committing to Manchester United shortly after they decided to part with Ruben Amorim.
“And now Ole is the clear favorite for the job.”
Solskjaer’s record as Manchester United manager
Solskjaer got off to a good start in his first spell as MUFC manager, but things took a turn for the worse before he was sacked in November 2021.
The 52-year-old managed a total of 168 games, winning 91 of them, giving him a winning percentage of 54.17%.
That’s much better than Amorim, and under Erik ten Hag, with United’s latest managerial figures below…
| The manager | Games | It wins | Drawings | Loss | win % |
| Ole Gunnar Solskjaer | 168 | 91 | 37 | 40 | 54.17 |
| Michael Carrick (keeper) | 3 | 2 | 1 | 0 | 66.67 |
| Ralph Rangnick (temporary) | 29 | 11 | 10 | 8 | 37.93 |
| Erik ten Hag | 128 | 70 | 23 | 35 | 54.69 |
| Ruud van Nistelrooy (caretaker) | 4 | 3 | 1 | 0 | 75.00 |
| Ruben Amorim | 63 | 24 | 18 | 21 | 38.10 |
United fans will have mixed feelings about Solskjaer’s return, but he looks like safe enough hands for a few months.
All in all, though, the club must avoid the mistake they made last time, when they ended up signing him perhaps because of emotions after his strong start as interim manager.
