Announcer: “Let’s head west quickly. There’s been a lot of talk about how the Sharks want to add at the deadline for such a young team. Is this something you see happening?”

Jim Biringer: “Yeah, sure. I could see them doing it, and I think they’re taking that next step. And it helps when you have Macklin Celebrini doing what he does at a pace, like 130 points, and speeding up that rebuild.”

NHL Rumors: Montreal Canadiens, and Young Trade Asset Tiers

But they had some years to sink there in San Jose. They stole the doormat a little. And you get those high hopes, and Will Smith and Macklin Celebrini play really well. And now they get goals, and they get on the road.

Now, defensively, they don’t really have anyone signed for the next few years, so that’s probably an area they’ll look to add. I know they were tied to Dougie Hamilton. Dougie Hamilton said, No. He didn’t want to go to San Jose. Is that what he’s reconsidering? But as of now, New Jersey with the injury to Luke Hughes, they may not move him, unless they really tail and just say, ‘Okay, we’re going to take the season out, and they’re going to start selling more assets.’

Because obviously, Ondrej Palat moved to the New York Islanders, but San Jose takes that next step where, ‘Okay, we didn’t think there was going to be a playoff team. We knew it would be better, but I don’t think anyone expected this.’ Now, they still miss, but I think it shows Mike Grier added Kiefer Sherwood.

If he goes and adds Artemi Panarin or another impact type player, it tells the room, ‘Hey, I believe in you. I believe in this team we’ve put together, and we’re going to go and give you a shot to make the play-offs, because that’s what it’s all about.’

And everybody says rebuild and recycle and all that. But sometimes these general managers say, ‘Hey, you know what? It’s something every year; if we have a chance to win it now, we’ll go for it.’ And I believe Mike Grier will be aggressive enough to do that and reward this team. “

NHL Rumors: Could the San Jose Sharks Be Ready to Add to Their Blue Line?

NHLRumors.com Note: The San Jose Sharks have been improving with adjustments, but Grier has been adding over time with players like Yaroslav Askarov, Tyler Toffoli, Alexander Wennberg, Barclay Goodrow, Dmitry Orlov, and others to help this young Sharks team succeed this season. It’s been a couple of years of heartache for this team, but Ryan Warsofsky has found this team to play the right way. Let’s see what happens at the trade deadline, but the expectation is that the Sharks will add.
