The ATP Tour heads to Montpellier this week for the indoor ATP 250 Open Occitanie, where Top 10 star and defending champion Felix Auger-Aliassime headlines the field.
The draw in the south of France includes Stan Wawrinka, who is competing in the final year of his career, as well as top 30 stars Flavio Cobolli, Tallon Griekspoor and Tomas Machac. Meanwhile home favorite Arthur Fils returns to competitive action for the first time since last July.
ATPtour.com looks at five things to watch this week.

1) Felix wants a quick answer: Number 8 in the PIF ATP Rankings, Auger-Aliassime will aim for a quick comeback after being forced to withdraw from her first round match at the Australian Open due to strain. The 25-year-old has a lot to be proud of in Montpellier: he is the defending champion there, and has won seven of his eight ATP Tour crowns on home soil. Auger-Aliassime’s opening opponent in France will be either Wawrinka or Hamad Medjedovic.
2) Fils returns after six months out: The home fans will welcome one of the French stars in Montpellier, where Arthur Fils will return to the ATP Tour after six months out with a back injury. He will face local player Valentin Royer in the first round. The 21-year-old Fils reached the semi-finals in his only appearance in Montpellier in 2023, before falling to former champion Jannik Sinner.
3) Wild card Wawrinka: The Swiss began his final year on the ATP Tour with a series of back-to-back matches at the United Cup and the Australian Open, where he reached the third round. Former world No. 3 Wawrinka now heads to Montpellier, where he will compete as a defender and face Serbia’s Medjedovic first. Hubert Hurkacz, another former Top 10 star who went 4-1 in one game to help Poland lift the United Cup, starts against the qualifiers.
4) Top 30 active stars: Like Auger-Aliassime, Cobolli will be hoping to get the first round in Australia behind him quickly under the roof in Montpellier. The Italian is the second seed in France, while Tallon Griekspoor is ranked third. Fourth seed Tomas Machac is chasing his second ATP 250 crown of the season after winning in Adelaide in mid-January.
5) Home hope Doumbia/Reboul leads the field twice: Sadio Doumbia and Fabien Reboul lifted the Montpellier trophy together in 2024, and the French duo return this year as top seeds. Their opponents in the second round include Jakob Schnaitter and Mark Wallner, while Wawrinka teams up with home favorite Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard.
