NHL Rumors: Florida Panthers Listening to Sergei Bobrovsky But Will He Be Traded?
Anthony Stewart: “So with all the organization going back and forth, are you surprised that Sergei Bobrovsky didn’t move, and in general, the lack of movement of goals, or those other agreements that are difficult to make in one day to be done?”
Dave Pagnotta: “Yeah, yeah, yeah. And you started hearing a lot of goaltender names coming up. It wasn’t just those guys. It (Jesper) Wallstedt with Minnesota. I mean, you have (Anthony) Stolarz with Toronto. His name started coming up a little bit. I mentioned (Samuel) Montambault. There might be a few different teams starting to scout different teams.
And Bob, I still believe he’ll stay there. I still believe there are two, maybe a three-year extension that could come up once, dusted in the offseason and all that. But, there was some discussion about Montreal. There was a discussion about San Jose.
Yes, there’s a lot of talk, and I’m sure there were conversations that were there, but I don’t think it got heated to the point where it was approaching. Although there was, I think one team told me they believed Florida was willing to keep half of that $10 million cap hit and facilitate the deal this season.
NHL rumors: Florida Panthers want to keep Sergei Bobrovsky
But again, it didn’t get there. I’m not too surprised that Bob stuck around. A bit of a surprise, there was a lot of interest in AJ Greer. And apparently, Florida had a certain amount they wanted to meet. They didn’t get there, and I believe they will explore an extension with Ger when things calm down.”
NHLRumors.com Note: The Florida Panthers retained both AJ Greer and Sergei Bobrovsky at the deadline. However, there was no such talk at the beginning of the season when everyone knew their situations. It wasn’t a big deal early in the season, especially for Bobrovsky, and it was his agent’s plan to keep the negotiations going.
However, Bobrovsky did not discuss the season and wanted to be in Florida. As Paul Maurice and GM Bill Zito said, he is the backbone of this organization. You are the foundation. The players want him to be there. Bobrovsky told the team he wants to be there and doesn’t want to be sold. Expect a two- to three-year deal somewhere in the $6 million to $7.5 million AAV range.

As for AJ Greer, the belief is that he will get a deal in the mid-$2 million range. But the Panthers also want to keep him.
