The Minnesota Wild will be aggressive in the final period

The Minnesota Wild made a splash about a week before the holiday trade on Friday night when they landed Quinn Hughes from the Minnesota Wild for Zeev Buium, Marco Rossi, Liam Ohgren, and a 2026 first-round pick. So was Wild GM Bill Guerin, knowing his team would have room to work with moving forward.
NHL Rumors: Quinn Hughes Open to Staying in Minnesota
We saw what Guerin did with Kirill Kaprizov, signing him to an eight-year, $17 million per season contract. And with Quinn Hughes’ comments, the odds may be higher than what they end up extending in the offseason. However, Wild is focused on the here and now. With assets and cap space like weapons, the expectation is that they aren’t done adding.
As Anthony Di Marco of the Daily Faceoff said on TSN Radio in Montreal, when asked if Quinn Hughes was a precursor to something else, he said there is more to come in Minnesota.

Manager: “Anthony, I’m looking at, and you alluded to, the potential playoffs. So now there’s no question that they’re a better team with Quinn Hughes than they were before you got him, but they’re a little lacking in middle depth, especially compared to the Stars in the first round, and if you come out of that, maybe this second round with Avala. hope pool you’re talking about?”
NHL Rumors: The latest on Rasmus Andersson
Anthony Di Marco: “I think so. Like, I talked to a source in Minnesota on Saturday, and they told me clearly, like, yes, we still have cap space. What do you think this deal means? And I fully expect the Minnesota Wild to be one of the most aggressive teams between now and the trade deadline in early March. So for me here, I’m going to look at all the centers that connect themselves to the market in Minnesota and I fully expect that Minnesota The Wild will be one of the most aggressive teams between now and the trade deadline in early March.
And for me, my mind goes directly to Nazem Kadri, because I know that the Minnesota Wild, like Kadri as a player. He won the Stanley Cup, he called it a certainty. And I think that might be the trend here, as Sean alluded to, that maybe the Minnesota Wild just don’t want to be hired.
Like they’re going to take big swings and add players to the base of the team over the next few years, and if they’re in the window right now following Quinn Hughes’ contract route, maybe this year and next.
NHL Rumors: Carolina Hurricanes, and Ottawa Senators
And like they probably have the best pitching tandem in the NHL. There’s a case to be made that they now have the best four backcourts in the NHL, and now they need some help up front. Like Joel Eriksson-Ek he is now their first center. He’s still missing a top-six center in Marco Rossi, though they haven’t been too high for him by all accounts in Minnesota.
But I think he really needs a shot in the arm down the middle here, and I fully expect Bill Guerin to make a big move on that between now and the deadline. “
