It will be a challenge for the Rangers to move Lafreniere
During Saturday’s Headlines on Hockey Night in Canada, Elliotte Friedman was asked about Alexis Lafreniere and whether he could see the New York Rangers trading him.

NHL Rumors: New York Rangers; Panarin, Trocheck, Soucy, Schneider, and Zibanejad
Ron MacLean: “Before we get to Dougie Hamilton, Alexis Lafreniere. First, Jeff Gorton picked him. So, everybody’s thinking, boy, it would be great to see him go to Montreal. Shane Wright, he said, he’s playing on the podcast.”
Elliotte Friedman: “I think Lafreniere, they were going to talk about him. But I think one of the things that happens, Ron, is that people can look at it and say, ‘This is where Lafreniere is today,’ but he’s a first-round pick a long time ago. And teams are always going to look at that. They’re always going to say, “We’re going to move that player” if we move him. So it’s a challenge. Like, who’s willing to look at it that way?”
NHLRumors.com Note: The New York Rangers are open for business. Along with Artemi Panarin and Vincent Trocheck, they listened to Alexis Lafreniere, the first overall pick of the 2020 draft. Friedman on the 32 Thoughts Podcast brought up the idea of a hockey trade between the Seattle Kraken and the New York Rangers. They would trade Shane Wright for Lafreniere. Now this is the kind of trade that would have to happen for the Rangers to consider. Drury still believes they can fix him.
Injuries That Played a Role in the Devils Trade Dougie Hamilton
During the same segment of Saturday’s Highlights on Hockey Night in Canada, Friedman said that trade talks for Dougie Hamilton have slowed down due to Luke Hughes’ injury, but it’s not possible with the right offer.

NHL Rumors: Boston Bruins Looking at RHD. How About A Dougie Hamilton Reunion?
Ron MacLean: “Dougie Hamilton?”
Elliotte Friedman: “Yeah, so Dougie Hamilton. In the last few weeks, he’s been a big name that we’ve all been talking about. Luke Hughes got injured, and he’s going to be out. He’s trying to come back without surgery, so he’s going to be out a little bit. And what you’ve done is bring Dougie Hamilton. Now even Derby’s think it’s impossible. think if the Devils, someone came to the Devils and something they wouldn’t say no to, they would do it but for now, Devil played very well, so delay this.
NHLRumors.com Note: While the New Jersey Devils are still looking to fill a void, they saw Dougie Hamilton record seven assists in the six games he’s played since being healthy against the Winnipeg Jets two weeks ago. Now the Devils have won five of six games and are back in the lineup.
However, GM Tom Fitzgerald is still looking to improve his hockey club in the playoffs. Hamilton still has the value of many teams, but the signing bonus of $ 7.4 million is a factor, as is the injury to Luke Hughes. Hughes will be out for a while, and surgery has not been decided. Also, they need a “Yes Offer” to do it and they need a defender who shoots right back, as that would leave a hole on both sides of their defence.
This can wait until the offseason.
