Calgary Flames, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Dallas Stars

Can Calgary Trade Nazem Kadri and Blake Coleman?
Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic: LeBrun spoke with Flames GM Craig Conroy following the Rasmus Andersson trade. They discussed various topics including what will follow the Flame. Is there a chance for Nazem Kadri and Blake Coleman to be traded? And there was some doubt in his answer.
“It’s tough,” Conroy said of the two players. “Because you don’t want to say it in our job, it’s not going to happen. If there’s a deal that makes you better? That would be anyone (not just Kadri or Coleman).
You’re always trying to focus on, ‘How do we do this? Are we getting smaller? Are we getting the chosen ones?’ We’re looking forward to getting this team up and running as quickly as possible, but that may mean keeping guys. I don’t even want to attach names, but you always talk to groups.”
NHLRumors.com Note: No player has yet told the Flames he wants out. However, the Flames received calls from both players. As mentioned before, it will take an offer they can’t refuse to move any player from Calgary. But if the goal is to be young, these are the two players who can help the Flames come back well and go forward.
Could the Pittsburgh Penguins trade for Jason Robertson?
Josh Yohe of The Athletic: Yohe writes that the Pittsburgh Penguins are interested in Dallas Stars forward Jason Robertson. The rest of the league could also be interested. He is the type of player Kyle Dubas has been eyeing since he took over as President/GM in Pittsburgh.
NHL Rumors: What will it cost the Dallas Stars to extend Jason Robertson?
The Penguins are an old team that needs to get smaller. Robertson is a restricted free agent this summer and a potential UFA in the summer of 2027. They have the assets and cap space to do so if they were to trade him. It’s unlikely they’ll send him an offer sheet, but that’s because the compensation isn’t worth it for a rebuilding team.
NHLRumors.com Note: All of this goes down if Star GM Jim Nill decides to make him available and can extend Robertson. Remember, Robertson recently changed agents in Andy Scott, who represents Mikko Rantanen and Thomas Harley to the Stars. Both are just extensions. So it will be interesting to see if Dallas can get him signed at a number they feel is reasonable.
Malkin wants to stay in Pittsburgh
Josh Yohe of The Athletic: Yohe writes that Evgeni Malkin wants to stay with the Pittsburgh Penguins. His agent and Kyle Dubas will meet during the Olympic break. Nothing has changed on Malkin’s end as he wants to stay with the Penguins. This may be his last season, but he doesn’t want to quit just yet.
