Can Alex de Minaur finally reach the trophy at the ABN AMRO Open in Rotterdam?
The top-seeded Australian eased past 2015 Stan Wawrinka 6-4, 6-2 on Thursday in the hard-court event, advancing to the quarter-finals for the fifth year in a row to equal Roger Federer’s record for consecutive appearances at that stage.

A finalist in the last two ATP 500 editions, De Minaur has won more (15) than anyone in this year’s event. On the Swiss card show Wawrinka, the No. 8 player in the PIF ATP Rankings forced the 40-year-old into mistakes with his consistent hitting, going 2-0 in the Lexus ATP Head2Head series.
“I think that over the years it has changed,” said De Minaur, when asked why Rotterdam seems to bring out his best. “Every year I’ve come here it’s been a little bit different in terms of playing conditions. The pace is a little bit different, and the balls are a little bit different, so I think I’m doing a good job of adapting. I don’t think there are too many players who feel comfortable out here, so it’s all about finding a way and that’s where I succeed.”
De Minaur has now recorded 50 victories in ATP 500 events since the start of 2023, lifting trophies at that level in Acapulco (2023, 2024) and Washington (2025), according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index. Aiming to break his streak in Rotterdam, he will next play Botic van de Zandschulp.
Dutchman Van de Zandschulp defeated 2022 finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-4, 7-6(4) to reach the quarter-finals in Rotterdam for the first time. He is the fourth Dutchman to reach the last eight of the ATP 500.
Second Player No. World No. 6 Felix Auger-Aliassime joined fellow Top 10 player De Minaur in the last 8 in Rotterdam with a potentially tough second round exit against Hamad Medjedovic. Auger-Aliassime, who lifted the ATP 250 indoor trophy in Montpellier on Sunday, won 6-4, 6-4 to extend her winning streak to six matches.
Now 17-1 against players outside the Top 50 since last August, the 2022 roster of Rotterdam Auger-Aliassime will play home favorite Tallon Griekspoor. The two players are tied 1-1 in their Lexus ATP Head2Head series, and Friday’s quarter-final will be their first indoor meeting.
Earlier, Ugo Humbert and Jaume Munar both advanced to the quarter-finals. Frenchman Humbert backed up his victory over Daniil Medvedev with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Guy Den Ouden, while Munar upset fifth seed Karen Khachanov 7-6 (8), 3-6, 6-3.
