Man United admire Atletico Madrid midfielder Pablo Barrios

Manchester United are ready to explore the possibility of strengthening their squad in the summer transfer window.

The Red Devils have struggled to find consistency this season and injury problems have hampered their form under Ruben Amorim this season.

The January transfer window provides a great opportunity to make positive changes to the club and keep pace with their Premier League rivals this season.

An area where Amorim’s team has struggled is the midfield.

The inconsistency of Casemiro’s form and Manuel Ugarte’s failure to adapt to the demands of England’s game may force the Red Devils to enter the market for a new midfielder soon.

Man United are looking to sign a midfielder

While they have the likes of Adam Wharton, Elliot Anderson and Carlos Baleba on their radar, all were not expected to make moves in the January transfer window.

They are currently monitoring another young player who has been impressed by the way he played in Spain.

Atletico Madrid midfielder Pablo Barrios is favored by Amorim and his club, according to reporter Dean Jones who confirmed the update on TEAMtalk.

“It’s hard to know how important we can take him at this stage, but Pablo Barrios is a player I’ve heard Man United likes,” explained Jones.

“I think the interest has come from looking at Conor Gallagher. But, however they end up looking at him, he is well-spoken at a few clubs and United are one of them.

“Obviously Gallagher is being talked about as a midfielder but Barrios would be a better fit for what United want long-term – and Amorim doesn’t just want to go on loan in midfield or sign someone for the sake of it. He wants players with a long-term vision.

“Atleti will not want to lose him because he is still very important to the midfielder, but I think it is possible that they will fight to keep Barrios until 2026.”

Barrios is a smart, powerful and intelligent midfielder who has shown his ability in Diego Simeone’s team.

At the moment, however, it seems that signing Conor Gallagher from Atletico would be easier for Man United than signing Barrios.

He is a 22-year-old midfielder who is considered the future of the Spanish team.

Barrios has a €120m release clause in his contract and his deal runs until 2030, giving Atletico Madrid the ability to keep the Spanish midfielder at the club for a long time.

On the other hand, Gallagher has struggled with his playing time this season and signing him would be a very easy move for Amorim and his recruiting staff.

It is worth noting that United intended to move Gallagher in the summer but their move was rejected by the Spanish club.
